Technical Design Manager

Location: Winston Salem / Hybrid

As we continue to grow and expand, we are looking for a Technical Design Manager to lead the design and development of our men's underwear line.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fabrics, garment construction, fit, and production processes. You will work closely with the Design and Development Director, Brand Director, and sales teams, to ensure the highest quality and market-right products are brought to retail.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Technical Design Process: Oversee all technical aspects of the men’s underwear design process, from initial concept to final product.
• Fit and Construction: Collaborate with the design team in vendor factories to translate sketches and concepts into tech packs, ensuring fit, construction, and garment details meet brand standards and customer expectations.
• Fabric and Material Expertise: Advise on fabric selection and ensure materials are appropriate for the design and function of the product, ensuring durability, comfort, and performance.
• Sample Development: Oversee the creation and refinement of samples, including reviewing and approving prototypes, fittings, and lab dips. Ensure samples meet technical specifications, aesthetic goals, and production timelines.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the product development, sourcing, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless product development and timely deliveries.
• Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot technical issues that arise during the development process and work to find efficient and effective solutions.
• Quality Control: Maintain a high standard of quality control and consistency across all products, ensuring that garments meet internal and external specifications.
• Technical Documentation: Create and manage detailed tech packs, spec sheets, and all necessary technical documents to ensure clear communication across all teams.
• Trend Analysis: Stay informed on industry trends, new materials, and innovative design techniques, applying relevant insights to enhance the product offering.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 5+ years of experience in technical design, ideally within men’s underwear or intimate apparel.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of garment construction, pattern-making, grading, and fabric properties.
• Fit Expertise: In-depth knowledge of fitting procedures, size grading, and the ability to interpret design sketches into practical garments.
• Software Proficiency: Experience with design and technical software (Adobe Suite)
• Attention to Detail: Strong focus on quality and precision in all aspects of the design and production process.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and solve design and manufacturing challenges quickly and effectively.
• Leadership Skills: Experience managing a team and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with various departments and external partners.
• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design
• 5% Travel
