The Mayers Lab is recruiting a highly motivated Lab Aide join our team. Our lab focuses on understanding the metabolism of bacteria and how these activities contribute to disease. Our work has implications for antibiotic resistant infections, structural lung diseases like COPD, and cancer development.

The Mayers lab uses a combination of patient samples, preclinical mouse models, and bacterial culture systems to probe these areas. Specifically, we utilize mass spectrometry metabolomics, RNA and DNA sequencing, genetics, chemical biology, protein biochemistry, and standard molecular biology techniques to study the two key parts of metabolic reactions, the small molecule metabolites (nutrients) and the enzymes that make them.

The candidate will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in performing research and contributing to daily laboratory operations. The Lab Aide will contribute to laboratory maintenance, perform experiments, and receive mentorship from the PI, as desired.

The candidate will join a supportive research environment that fosters creativity, professional development, and scientific discovery. This position is part-time, 10-20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Take weekly inventory, restock, and order supplies and reagents.
  • Make, aliquot, and maintain stock solutions.
  • May assist with routine research tasks, including molecular and culture work.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory area.
  • Rinse and prepare materials for cleaning. Deliver materials to storage areas.
  • Process biohazardous and chemical waste.
  • Clean and maintain critical lab equipment.
  • Perform clerical duties as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent with interest in the sciences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate in a four-year university.
  • Some lab experience and/or college level biology courses preferred.
  • Work-study eligible students are preferred.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.00 to $25.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
