HARDWARE - PROJECT ENGINEER

This position describes an individual who can develop and support hardware products for heavy duty repair technicians. The position requires a broad collection of technical, and people skills, as well as, the ability to respond to the effect of rapidly changing business conditions.

The Hardware Project Engineer will be a high-level individual contributor for the Hardware Engineering Team with a thorough understanding of the following duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop circuit board designs and firmware for various hardware products to support heavy duty repair technicians.
  2. Support hardware products to be up to date with their certifications. Examples are: Safety, EMI/EMC, and wireless certifications.
  3. Support production activities by working closely with contract manufacturers (CMs) and develop/maintain various software utilities and/or fixtures used in the manufacturing process.
  4. Able to work independently in applicable phases of hardware and firmware development.
  5. Manage all aspects of Snap-on Intellectual Property per Corporate guidelines.
  6. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. BSEE or equivalent with 5+ years of Microcontroller experience.
  2. Must have 5+ years' experience in Hardware Design, including:
  • Design Tools (ORCAD Schematic Capture, e.g.)
  • Identifying appropriate evaluation boards for proof of concept/prototype development
  • Proficient in identifying issues (debugging) and replacing components on a PCB
  • SoCs ARM64/microcontrollers using ARM Cortex M4/M7
  • Lithium-Ion Battery power systems
  1. Knowledge of Vehicle Communications Protocols CAN*, J1939, ISO15765, J1708, ISO9141
  2. Have experience in working with communication channels such as USB, SDIO, I2C, SPI, UART
  3. Must have 3+ years of experience in assembly and C/C++ Programming in embedded environment
  4. Knowledge of Software development using .NET is preferred.
  5. Good understanding of wireless communications including Wi-Fi, BT (Classic, LE)
  6. Experience in source code management software like SVN, GIT
  7. Experience in Engineering Change Control process and part number system tools.
  8. Experience in Automotive Service industry or the development of automotive products recommended.
  9. Experience with ISO9001 and CMMI quality systems desirable.
  10. Strong inter-personal skills, excellent communication skills, self-motivated, goals oriented, team player/team leader.
  11. Innovative/creative, organization skills, time management skills, adaptable to change.
