Mechanical Engineer, Packaging Innovation, MSP
The Mechanical Engineer designs automated packaging platforms and supporting systems to enable faster and more efficient delivery to Amazon's customers.
The primary role of the Mechanical Engineer is to provide technical ownership and refinement of the packaging platforms and automation systems. Working with the Electrical and Controls teams, the Mechanical Engineer will execute the design and manufacturing of Amazon's in-house packaging machinery and automation.
Key job responsibilities- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to design and execute packaging machinery and automation projects
- Collaborate in the mechanical design work-streams, including modeling, load/bearing calculations, and 3D/2D design
- Ensure project documentation is complete and scalable for manufacturing
- Support safety certification of projects/platforms
- Participate in meetings to optimize for customer experience, supply chain, and sustainability
About the team
The Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging (MSP) team develops automated solutions and sustainable packaging across Amazon's operations, focusing on customer experience and waste reduction.- 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience- Experience with prototyping and implementation
- BA in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
- 5+ years packaging machinery design experience
- Proficiency in 3D design and simulation software including but not limited to Ansys, Creo, Catia, Solidworks- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- PLM, GD&T, and manufacturing process knowledge
- Understanding of packaging machinery safety standards
- Operations experience in a manufacturing environment
- Advanced simulation expertise
