Position Summary:

Teen Xpress, a program of The Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families at Orlando Health, is looking for a Licensed Mental Health Therapist to provide individual and group counseling to middle and high school students (11–18-year-olds).
Services are typically provided on a mobile unit that travels to the different service sites. The candidate will be required to travel to 7 middle and high schools in Orange County to provide services. In addition to counseling duties, the therapist should be comfortable recruiting students and engaging partners to maintain a reasonable caseload.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, engage well with adolescents and their parents, be a self-starter, and be familiar with community mental health resources. Bilingual Spanish is strongly preferred.

The Licensed Mental Health Therapist works with patients to promote optimum mental and emotional health.

This position requires travel to Orange County Public Schools. Gas mileage reimbursement will be offered.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions
  • Develop comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and clinical impressions responsive to age-appropriate patients/family needs and concerns.
  • Differential diagnosis of mental/emotional disorders using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
  • Diagnose biopsychosocial functioning, disability, and impairment for the age-appropriate patient/family.
  • Develop treatment intervention plans with clinical impressions. The plan is diagnostically driven, and outcomes focused with the patient/family and healthcare team.
  • Develop an effective working relationship with patient/family to engage, collaborate, advocate and problem solve in order to support and enhance their mental health strengths and functioning ability.
  • Utilizes differential diagnostic skills and employs various clinical treatment interventions included but are not limited to crisis intervention, solution focused therapy, individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy, grief and bereavement counseling, play therapy, sand tray therapy, EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy and mental status exams.
  • Initiate Baker Act.
  • Facilitate Marchman Act when appropriate.
  • Facilitates patient’s psychosocial adjustment along the continuum of care and transition to next level of care.
  • Provide mental health education, information, consultation, and professional support regarding patient/family needs to the healthcare team members and colleagues within the department.
  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership in developing mental health services which respond to patient care demands.
  • Identify practice based on continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintain an up-to-date, accurate and appropriate record of mental health activities in patients’ medical chart, which does not violate confidentiality.
  • Meet department/hospital expectations of growth goals set forth by coaching plans.
  • Ability to perform independently and provide clinical practice in a health care setting.
  • Ability to supervise and participate in teaching within the department, hospital, and community.
  • Care coordination responsibilities and related functions as appropriate for your patient population.
  • When appropriate for the clinical setting, must have subspecialty credentialing i.e., sexual abuse, EMDR, CAP, CBT.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of human growth and development of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations through educational opportunities and meet expectations set forth by hospital and departmental standards.
  • Pursue opportunities for obtaining continuing education as set by department policy.
  • Involved in strengthening the community through participation in local, regional, state or national activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Training
  • Master’s degree.
Licensure/Certification
  • Maintains Florida state (Chapter 491 Florida Statutes) licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist; or,
  • Maintains Florida state (Chapter 491 Florida Statutes) licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor; or,
  • Maintains Florida state (Chapter 491) Florida Statutes) licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Experience
  • Two (2) years of direct clinical experience preferable in a health or mental health setting with an emphasis on population to be served in the assigned area.
