We have an immediate opening for a Senior Control Systems Engineer. This role will be a subject matter expert for control systems engineering and will be responsible for developing and implementing detailed design packages and controls programs for projects to install specialty gas and chemical processing systems.

This role will also provide technical support to assess and troubleshoot existing plant systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design, development, and execution of controls systems for new chemical processing plants and industrial facilities.
  • Develop engineering deliverables in support of project execution including control system architecture, I/O lists/layouts, control narratives, electrical schematics, instrument/equipment specifications, interlock matrices, control logic, and HMI graphics for DCS, PLC, and BMS systems.
  • Define control system architecture, networking, hardware, and software requirements for large chemical processing plants and new industrial facilities.
  • Develop and implement process automation to improve product quality and process reliability, and optimize plants for cost-effective, safe operation.
  • Direct and review the execution of controls system engineering work performed by internal employees and external contractors.
  • Collaborate with project team members to ensure the timely delivery of projects that meet all customer and functional requirements.
  • Develop and execute detailed testing and commissioning plans to confirm proper functionality of all control sequences and interlocks.
  • Manage the design and installation of electrical equipment including electrical power distribution systems, PLC's, instrumentation, variable speed AC and DC drives.
  • Provides general support to the engineering department on controls systems including troubleshooting and improving existing systems.
  • Develops standards, systems, and processes to support consistent execution of controls system engineering.
  • Manage the interface between vendors and engineering contractors (as needed) during project execution.
  • Complete design calculations and prepare equipment or material specifications for electrical and electronic based systems.
  • Configure and integrate 3rd party devices into the control system via serial, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and other communication protocols.
  • Attend and conduct factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, and participate in commissioning and startup activities.
  • Participate in PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, FEMA and other safety/reliability reviews.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable company and client quality requirements in all assigned programs, functions, products, and areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications/Education/Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering (preference chemical or electrical) with 5-10 years’ experience in a controls system engineering role, preferably in the specialty gas and/or advanced materials industry
  • Experience with specifying, installing, and programming Modicon, Allen Bradley, Siemens, and/or Automation Direct hardware and software.
  • Understanding of IEC 61131 languages including ladder logic, function block diagram, and structured text.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office; AutoCAD.
