Fish Cytogenetics Technologist
Scores and records FISH probe results using a fluorescent automated scanning system or a manual fluorescent microscope and reports findings to the pathologist for review and interpretation.
In addition to the above, the individual maintain equipment and records; performs quality control and quality assurance activities, participates in the evaluation of new procedures and equipment; provides training for technologists, residents, fellows, and other medical staff; works efficiently in a computerized environment; assists with the functions required to maintain the smooth operation of the department such as clerical duties, reagent preparation, and inventory control; and write and revise technical procedures.
The cytogenetic |FISH technologist exercises broad independent judgment and decision-making abilities and requires minimal oversight to complete assigned tasks. Possesses superior organizational skills, demonstrates a great deal of initiative and is capable of working very independently.
Credentials and Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Molecular Biology, Medical Technology, Biologic Science.
Florida State Medical Technologist, Cytogenetics Specialty
Must possess 12 months experience in molecular pathology, medical technology, or related field to include experience related to FISH laboratory testing including, processing of specimens, and interpretation of both hematologic and paraffin embedded tissue samples.
