Job Description:

This is a position with the Planning Yard DDG 51 Engineering team. This position provides Technical Point of Contact and Systems Engineering for the DDG 51 Class in-service DDGs. Successful candidate will report to the Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) Engineering Group for duties.

This position is primarily needed to support Alarm Systems and provide backup support for DMS/FODMS/GEDMS systems.

Typical responsibilities include:

Serve as Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for assigned HM&E (Hull, Mechanical and Electrical) alterations aboard DDG 51 Class ships. The successful candidate will be expected to work several assigned HM&E ship alterations as TPOC (Technical Point of Contact).

  • This position will mainly support Alarm Systems, Controls Systems, and Functional Engineering reviews of DMS/FODMS/GEDMS.
  • Work with various Navy customers and other contractors in the development of technical requirements and resolution of issues as they develop.
  • Brief the ship check teams to ensure all applicable guidance is followed: accompany the design team on selected ship checks.
  • Provide technical support for Ship Installation Design (SID) development.
  • Write/review Ship Change Documents (SCDs).
  • Develop ROM estimates for emergent design and engineering work.
  • Assist the Engineering Team and department in improving engineering quality and processes.

Required/Preferred Education/Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • BIW Graduate Apprentice (Design or Production) or demonstrated requisite technical experience required.
  • Knowledge of electronics, sensors, signals, and controls is preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with Design and testing of US Naval Combatants. Demonstrated familiarity with shipboard construction and testing activities.
  • Familiarity with shipboard HM&E systems required. Working knowledge of alarm and controls systems and cables/signals.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret diagrams, schematics, blueprints/drawings, and equipment technical manuals required.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel required.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet schedule demands required.
  • MS Excel and MS Word skills required, proficiency using MS Access desirable.
  • In support of the controls/alarms work scope, the ability to obtain a security clearance is required.
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
