PURPOSE:

Working under the supervision of the Director of Facilities Management and Facilities Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker II will perform a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of building including Electrical, Carpentry, and Plumbing.

Responsibilities:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Note: The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive. Other duties may be assigned.)
  • Repair or alter buildings, wood and steel frame, brick, block wall, cast concrete structures and other structures from plans, sketches or instructions.
  • Repair floors, walls, ceilings, doors, furniture, fixtures, and stairs, finish drywall of limited size, painting.
  • Adjust, repair or replace locks, handles, blinds, brackets, tiles, linoleum, and flooring.
  • Build and install (where feasible), furniture, cabinets, partitions, and other fixtures.
  • Work with concrete, setting and pouring forms and setting and finish flatwork.
  • Operate power equipment such as saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, planers; maintain and repair such equipment.
  • Install, test and repair motors, electrical fixtures, light fixtures and fans.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Perform all plumbing duties such as repair and replace facility sinks, toilets, water lines and sewer lines.
  • Supervise work-grant students, clean classrooms, hallways, chalk boards, and cafeteria clean-up.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and monthly inspections as required.
  • Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by your supervisor, and to work in any part of the school as designated by your supervisor, in order to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have general knowledge regarding equipment and tools used in maintaining building and grounds including carpentry plumbing, and electricity.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and capable of performing a variety of maintenance duties.
  • Must possess good physical health and be able to perform the above duties with minimum of help.
  • Must be able to consistently stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb when performing certain tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to handle and manipulate tools and equipment.
  • Ability to complete tasks while using a ladder.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions as well as communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to read drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently.
  • Ability to work with young men of high school age.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments.
All staff is required to comply with all Health and Safety guidelines. Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed upon them in order to ensure that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe working environment for students, visitors and employees.

All employees are required to take reasonable care to avoid accidents or injuries, which could cause harm to them or other people. Use all protective equipment and clothing as provided by the Facilities Management Department for the safe completion of your duties.

This position is regularly scheduled to work Monday – Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm with occasional evenings and weekends when needed.
