Overview:
The Physical Therapy Assistant provides skilled therapy intervention and treatment to patients under the supervision of the Physical Therapist. This care includes providing direct patient care according to the treatment plan established by the Physical Therapist.The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for educating patients and caregivers while preparing the patient/caregiver for discharge as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the evaluation process by implementing delegated assessments and by providing verbal and written reports of observations and patient capacities to the supervising therapist. Provide input for intervention plan, based on patient needs and priorities and is knowledgeable about the patient’s therapy goals.
- Observe, record, and report the patient’s reaction to treatment and any changes in the patient’s condition to the supervising nurse, Physical Therapist, physician and mid-level provider as needed and in accordance with departmental and organizational policies.
- Educate and document in the patient record, instructions given to patient, caregiver, and/or family member or other healthcare personnel.
- Submit accurate and timely documentation in accordance with departmental and organizational policies.
- Under the guidance of the supervising therapist, treats to relieve pain, develop and restore function and maintain maximum performance using appropriate treatments, modalities, and procedure as stated in the plan of care.
- Promote coordination of care through interdisciplinary communication in accordance with departmental and organizational policies.
- Participate in instructing the patient, family, caregiver and/or other healthcare team personnel in the exercise program developed by the Physical Therapist for strengthening and conditioning.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards in relation to interaction and work with patients, physicians, caregivers/family and other members of the healthcare team.
- Meet the productivity standards that have been established by the organization.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
Qualifications:
Education / Training- Associate's Degree Physical Therapy Assistant Program
Additional Information:
Graduate of an APTA/CAPTE accredited PTA program required.
Experience Requirements- 0-1 PTA experience
- Physical Therapy Assistant License in Florida
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Level 2 AHCA Background Check (Home Care only)
- Motor Vehicles Record (MVR) Background Check (Home Care only)
Additional Information:
BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hireLevel 2 AHCA Background Screening required upon hire for Home Care.
Must have good driving record. Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required for MVR for Home Care.
