Tax Senior Manager

We are seeking a Tax Senior Manager for our team in Baltimore, Maryland. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all domestic compensation and benefit related tax matters for our company. You will take on a variety of duties, including employment tax compliance, system testing, and worker classification determinations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Apply advanced knowledge of U.S. employment tax laws and procedures in handling all tax matters.
  • Communicate complex tax topics to individuals outside of the Tax Office who may not be familiar with tax laws and related concepts.
  • Ensure the timely completion of all federal and state employment tax payments, compliance filings, and notice responses.
  • Manage employment tax compliance for non-resident students and scholars.
  • Oversee system testing and maintenance as it relates to employment tax.
  • Handle worker classification determinations and support compensation reporting for non-payroll tax filings.
  • Recommend and implement best practices in supporting the institution's employment tax matters.
  • Introduce innovative tools and services to improve efficiency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with payroll and benefits tax experts serving in other departments to build and enhance policies and procedures impacted by U.S. employment taxes.
  • Advise institution leaders and stakeholders on matters related to U.S. taxes, specifically those related to employment.
  • Manage the company's external tax advisors and develop, coach, and mentor Tax Office staff.
  • Possession of an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role within a corporate setting
  • Proficiency in complex payroll systems
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning systems
  • Proven track record in Compliance and Consolidated Tax Returns
  • Expertise in Payroll Tax Reporting and Local Payroll Tax
  • Extensive knowledge in Compensation & Benefits
  • Experience in Public Accounting Tax
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and team management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial data and provide financial advice
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
