Commercial Credit Underwriting Team Lead

Overview:

The Credit Underwriting Team Lead will provide credit administration support and service to assigned banking teams and oversee a team of Credit Underwriters. Perform independent credit analysis and risk assessment on large and complex credit relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide leadership and guidance to team members to ensure proper workflow management.
  • Motivate and lead a high performing team; attract, recruit, and retain team members.
  • Train and develop team members in all areas of job responsibilities, including laws, regulations, industry standards, risk identification and management, software, and related updates.
  • Mentor Underwriters utilizing Strength Based Leadership objectives.
  • Cleary communicate performance expectations to team members and address any deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Review loan presentations for accuracy and completeness and coach Credit Underwriters on any errors or areas for improvement.
  • Conduct meetings with team to discuss emerging issues, pipeline management, and workloads.
  • Collaborate with Bankers to complete formal credit approval memos which include preparing a cash flow model and other financial spreadsheets and analysis on larger and more complex credit relationships.
  • Prepare memos on prospective loan requests (Loans of Interest or “LOIs”).
  • Analyze sponsor’s financial position and credit worthiness to ensure loans are appropriately supported and meet credit requirements for lending quality and compliance as determined by the Bank’s Credit Policy.
  • Provide support to Bankers and Credit Officers in managing loans and pipeline; including but not limited to reviewing third party reports (appraisals, property condition assessments, and environmental reports) and borrower or project financial statements.
  • Review the proposed loan structure to determine if it is appropriate to sufficiently mitigate and manage risk.
  • Make independent recommendations regarding credit risk supported by comprehensive analysis.
  • Assist with loan portfolio management and monitoring.
  • Provide recommendations and day to day guidance on new and existing workflow process, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as lead on special projects as directed.
  • Comply with all credit administration policies and procedures.
  • Prepare management and board reports as directed.

  • Develop and maintain trusted, positive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.
  • Represent the Bank and Credit Administration team in a highly professional manner.

  • Maintain confidentiality; adhere to CrossFirst Bank policies and procedures; comply with laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance; both on-site and remote.

Qualifications:

  • Three or more years as a successful credit analyst or similar role in a commercial bank is preferred.
  • Ability to utilize diverse data analysis processes, techniques, and tools to analyze and interpret property related data.
  • Knowledge of financial statement analysis and demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate key risks.
  • Effective communicator and results oriented.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate relationships, internally and external.
  • PC experience in a Windows environment, Word, and advanced spreadsheet experience on Excel is required.
  • Experience overseeing a team is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree with exposure to Accounting, Finance or Business courses is preferred or equivalent work experience.
