The Dental Billing Manager is responsible for overseeing the dental billing department's daily operations. This role ensures the accurate and timely processing of dental claims, manages accounts receivable specific to dental services, supervises the dental billing team, and ensures compliance with dental coding and payer regulations.

The supervisor will also be responsible for onboarding dental providers, conducting dental coding audits, and handling escalated billing inquiries.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise the dental billing team, focusing on dental billing processes and dental-specific coding practices.
  • Oversee the assignment of dental billing tasks, ensuring all dental billing activities are completed accurately and timely.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for dental billing staff, providing coaching on dental billing and coding practices.
  • Dental Billing Operations:
  • Ensure the accurate and timely submission of dental claims to insurance payers, including Medicaid, Medicare Advantage (Part C), and private dental insurers.
  • Monitor and manage accounts receivable specific to dental services, including tracking unpaid dental claims and resolving dental claim denials.
  • Oversee the dental billing workflow, including charge entry for dental procedures, claim submission for dental services, and denial management specific to dental claims.
  • Collaborate closely with the payment posting team to ensure accurate and timely posting of payments for dental treatments.
  • Dental Compliance & Auditing:
  • Conduct regular audits of dental coding to ensure compliance with the latest CDT codes and payer-specific dental guidelines.
  • Stay informed of changes in dental billing regulations, CDT code updates, and payer policies affecting dental claims.
  • Implement corrective actions to address any dental billing errors or compliance issues, ensuring accurate coding for dental procedures.
  • Dental Provider Support & Training:
  • Onboard new dental providers, ensuring they are trained on accurate documentation and coding for dental procedures.
  • Provide ongoing training to dental providers on dental coding updates, best practices for documentation, and dental billing processes.
  • Communication & Coordination:
  • Serve as the primary contact for escalated dental billing inquiries from patients, dental providers, and clinic staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Patient Accounts, dental providers, and other departments to optimize dental billing processes and improve financial outcomes for dental services.
  • Attend dental department meetings, contributing insights on dental billing trends, issues, and opportunities.
  • Reporting & Analysis:
  • Generate and review dental billing reports, focusing on key metrics such as claim submission timelines, dental denial rates, and dental collection rates.
  • Analyze dental billing data to identify trends in dental claim processing, areas for improvement in dental billing workflows, and opportunities for revenue enhancement in dental services.
  • Payer & Insurance Management:
  • Oversee payer enrollments specific to dental providers, ensuring timely and accurate submission of dental credentialing applications.
  • Maintain strong relationships with dental payers, resolving issues related to dental claim processing and reimbursement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Certification in dental coding and billing (e.g., Certified Dental Coder, Certified Dental Billing Specialist) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 -7 years of experience in dental billing, experienced in a supervisory or leadership role within a dental billing department.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing dental accounts receivable and improving dental billing processes.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of dental billing and coding practices, including familiarity with CDT codes, dental payer requirements, and dental insurance policies.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on dental billing operations.
  • Proficiency in dental practice management software and dental billing systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and act on dental billing data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with an emphasis on dental terminology and practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced dental environment.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Use of mouse, keyboard, and headset.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
