What you'll do:

This is a role for a junior Data Analytics and Visualization Intern who is eager to contribute to a small, fast-paced team that is developing solutions to a growing market. We have a need for an individual to design and develop visualizations that help the businesses explain the current coverage and capacity capabilities of the Viasat Satellite network.

**We are looking for someone to work part time/remotely from January - May/June 2025, and then transition to full time/onsite during our 12-13 week summer internship program**

The day-to-day:

  • Collaborate with a team to create data visualizations and dashboards
  • Assist in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines using Airflow and SQL
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses as needed to support business decisions
  • Improve our data analysis and visualization processes by researching and testing new tools and techniques

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work part time (~15-20 hours/week) during the spring academic term- from January through May/June 2025, and this work will be done remotely
  • Starting in May or June (when your term ends), you will transition to working full time onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship.   • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.

What you'll need:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science or related field (e.g., computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics)
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Matlab
  • Proficiency in SQL and basic understanding of database structures
  • Knowledge of Python programming
  • US Citizenship is required for this position

Internship Dates:

  • You must be available part time from January through May/June 2025 and then full time for the duration of the 12-13 week summer internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options for the full time internship based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
  • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 – August 15th, 2025
  • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 – September 12th, 2025

What will help you on the job:

  • Experience with RF Link Budgets is a plus
  • Experience with data cleaning, transformation, and normalization.
  • Airflow or other ETL tools
  • Familiarity with statistics and machine learning concepts
  • Git and version control
  • Cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure)

Salary range: $20.91 - $56.97 / hourly.

For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly
