The UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center in Orange County, California.

As part of the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, the mission of the UC Irvine Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health is the achievement of health equity for all populations through research, teaching, service, and public health practice, locally and globally.

Championing the principles of evidence-based public health science, Wen Public Health aspires to understand and impact population-level social, biological, and environmental determinants of health and well-being.

Responsibilities:
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
  • Ability to work independently, using judgment and decision-making skills to conduct short and long range planning, to prioritize tasks, and to follow through with related activities and request for information in an environment with a high volume diverse workload, of frequent interruptions, competing deadlines, changing priorities and compelling requests.
  • Strong experience with qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to use qualitative data analysis and project management software.
  • Fluent (oral, written) in English and another Asian American language commonly spoken in communities of focus for the research and evaluation projects (e.g., Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog).
  • Proficient writing skills to prepare/compose/review a variety of communications, primarily electronic.
  • Relevant work experience with a MPH/MS/MA/MSW, or Equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

Preferred:

  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Strong policy analysis techniques.
  • Previous experience social & behavioral research, nutritional science, and/or health promotion program preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience Training and experience (5+ years) in community-based participatory research, health equity, and mixed methods including qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Fluent (written, oral) in English and one of the most common Asian American languages spoken among the communities with whom our research projects focus (Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog)

Special Conditions:

  • Ability to travel to community-based sites for meetings and data collection activities at UC Irvine and in Orange County (mostly, but not exclusively Santa Ana).
