Wage: $109,440 - $133,760 annually depending on experience

Position Overview: The Plant Engineer develops, maintains, and improves production process methods and product quality in a Lean manufacturing environment. This position will be responsible for improving existing equipment productivity, designing food processing and packaging equipment, helping plan equipment installation, and assisting with new product introduction.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops, maintains, and improves production process methods and product quality.
  • Improves existing equipment productivity by error proofing and determines overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Designs food processing and packaging equipment.
  • Prepares new equipment proposals and determines return on investment and process costing by conducting a cost-benefit analysis.
  • Assists with planning equipment installation and manages all manufacturing details of new product launches.
  • Executes process analyses and validating process changes.
  • Improves processes by conducting root-cause analysis.
  • Identifies process waste and strategizes ways to combat downtime by implementing Lean processes and tools.
  • Develops manufacturing process instructions and documentation.
  • Implements Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods and tools used to determine the root cause of failures and makes recommendations in process changes.
  • Leads system level Process Improvement (PI) initiatives.
  • Assists and advises production employees and the maintenance team to troubleshoot and solve problems in the manufacturing area.
  • Continually improves the rates, efficiencies, yields, and costs of manufacturing systems, and actively involved in the development and implementation of the long-term improvement programs.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.
  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations, Safe Quality Food (SQF) Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality concerns to Supervisors and/or Department Manager.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.
  • This position reports to the Engineering and Fabrication Manager.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • 5 or more years of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or related experience, AND
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field; OR
  • Any combination of education and additional years of experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and ability to perform assigned tasks.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs.
  • Occasional lifting of weight up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment consists of an office setting as well as production and warehouse settings.
  • May be exposed to significant extremes in temperature, noise, and dust.
  • Employees will be exposed to common food allergens.
