Responsibilities:

MOBILE PHLEBOTOMIST POSITION FOR MASSACHUSETTS

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for performing whole blood collection in the donor room and at mobile sites in Massachusetts. Responsible for registration, interview, draw and care of all blood donors. Performs various regulated functions related to the care of the blood after collections, including storage and transportation.

Promotes positive image of NYBC to the community. This person is considered “essential” during severe weather or emergency operation events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides excellent customer service by acknowledging the donor, treating donors in a respectful manner, and striving to provide each donor with a positive and pleasant experience which would encourage his/her return.
  • Performs all aspects of whole blood collection as required.
  • Performs donor interview and evaluates suitability of donor for donation based on current SOP criteria.
  • Determines donor hemoglobin by obtaining a finger-stick sample.
  • Takes and documents donor blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight and height.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding donors.
  • Performs prep, phlebotomy, and discontinuation of whole blood procedures. Monitors the donor’s progress during the procedure, according to collection guidelines. Ensures the collected product meets acceptable standards. Provides prompt response to adverse donor reactions.
  • Performs pre draw QC and post draw activities including but not limited to cleaning equipment, re-stocking supplies, and removing/storing supplies in a controlled area. Works mobiles as assigned and participates in pre-draw set up and post draw packing of supplies and equipment and cleanup of controlled supplies.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
  • Complies with safety procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in dress, personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Exemplifies NYBC core values and meets or exceeds internal and external customer service expectations.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment and/or phlebotomy preferred.
  • Superior customer service skills are essential in this role.
  • Individual must be well organized, attentive to detail, adapt easily to varied work conditions and scheduled hours, adapt easily to change; must present with pleasant, positive attitude; demonstrate honesty and dependability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic writing skills.
  • Must be able to fluently speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • CPR certification preferred.

SCHEDULE:

Varied work schedule includes days, evenings, and weekend rotation

Applicants must have a reliable vehicle. Travel primarily throughout the Metro-West area along with Norfolk, Worcester and Middlesex counties is required.

The proposed hourly wage for this position is $19.53/hour.
