About the Team:

VIZIO is seeking a Legal Counsel with experience in U.S. state and federal privacy compliance, privacy program management, and regulatory counseling. This Counsel will report to VIZIO’s Senior Counsel of Privacy, collaborate with other attorneys in VIZIO’s Legal department, and help continue to support and improve the Company’s privacy program as it matures and develops new services and offerings for platform partners and users.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain and continuously improve working knowledge of applicable state, federal, and global privacy laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Develop, manage, and improve internal compliance policies and practices relating to data governance.
  • Monitor and update external privacy policies and disclosures to align with business practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in conducting and managing internal assessments of the Company’s privacy controls.
  • Coordinate with business stakeholders, outside consultants, and counterparty representatives to manage external assessments of Company’s business partners.
  • Provide counseling on safeguards relating to sensitive personal information categories.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys to review data privacy terms in Company agreements, which may include content licensing agreements, advertising services agreements, data licensing agreements, or other professional services contracts.
  • Evaluate issues from legal and business perspectives with a practical, business-oriented approach to problem solving, as well as handle complex business and legal issues in a fast-paced, agile, and evolving technology-driven business environment.
  • Support strategic initiatives in new technologies or services.
  • Like all attorneys at all levels at VIZIO, pitch in wherever necessary to assist the Legal team in meeting the Company’s goals.

About You:

  • Deep interest in data privacy and intersection of law and information technology.
  • A Juris Doctorate from a U.S. accredited law school.
  • 5+ years of total legal experience, preferably in an in-house legal department, government agency, and/or commercial or corporate litigation or transactions practice with a reputable firm.
  • Experience representing clients in technology, preferably with exposure to software, digital advertising, and/or media and entertainment.
  • IAPP certification in one or more of the following: CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT.
  • Ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong fundamental skills in legal research, legal writing, fact investigation, negotiation, and advocacy in high-stakes settings.
  • Maturity and sound judgment in analyzing risks and proposing business-oriented solutions.
  • Ability to summarize and communicate complex matters and options to stakeholders.
  • Professionalism, strong work ethic, and willingness to take ownership of challenging legal matters.
  • Precise attention to details.
  • Service-oriented attitude to support legal and business stakeholders.
  • License to practice law in the State of California or ability to register as California in-house counsel.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint.

For California-based employment: The minimum salary for this position is $143,000.00. The maximum salary for this position $177,999. In addition to base salary, the compensation package also includes eligibility for an annual bonus, as well as equity and a range of medical, dental, vision and other benefits.

For Colorado-based employment: The target salary range is $131,000.00-$163,166.00. In addition to base salary, the compensation package also includes eligibility for an annual bonus, as well as equity and a range of medical, dental, vision and other benefits.
