Department Overview:

OHSU Dermatology is located in the Center for Health & Healing on the South Waterfront in Portland, Oregon. The Department of Dermatology is dedicated to providing our patients the best and most innovative dermatologic care for the broad range of skin, hair, nail, and mucous membrane disorders.

This position will provide services as assigned by Dr, Wesley Yu to help further the research mission of the Department of Dermatology. The Technical Writer position will support the OHSU Skin Cancer Research Group in planning, writing, and editing content for publications, grants, presentations, websites, and other reports.

Function/Duties of Position:

Publications/Journals and Grant Submissions –
  • This position will support the Skin Cancer Research Group by helping to draft, gather citations, format, and revise a variety of publications, grant applications, abstracts, on-line publications and article submissions. This will include creating first drafts of documents, reading through all the copy for a sense of the content, researching sources if needed to verify accuracy, detecting and correcting for spelling, grammatical and syntax errors, change or re-write language as needed consistent with the author’s intent, index and cross-reference documents as needed and ensure copy meets publishing guidelines for submissions.
  • This position will also assist in design layout for the structure of manuscripts, figures, and tables that may include re-formatting material as needed for submissions, letters of intent, or PowerPoint slide preparation.
  • This position also will act as contact for medical students, residents and staff for academic editing and publication support as needed.
Data Analysis and Gathering –
  • This position may assist in writing summary documentation of faculty gathered data for input into articles and publications.
  • This position may also help in literature searches.

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree required, preferably in Technical Writing, Journalism or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in Technical Writing position OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office Products, Endnote/Mendeley (or equivalent referencing software), Pubmed (and other medical literature databases)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in healthcare technical writing.

Additional Details:

  • 2-3 days per week, either at home or in a shared office
