IDB Invest is an international financial institution and the private sector arm of the IDB Group that aims to solve development needs in Latin America and the Caribbean. IDB Invest's shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization to support a transformative business model, "Originate to Share," to attract greater private investment that drives development and climate impact in Latin America and the Caribbean.This will enable IDB Invest to nearly double its annual regional investments from approximately $8 billion to $19 billion.
IDB Invest has reorganized its structure to implement this new business model, creating the Regions Department. This department manages the business and clients from a country perspective organized in four regions: Southern Cone (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay), Andean Group (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela), the Caribbean (The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago), and Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua), Haiti, Mexico, Panama and Dominican Republic.
About this position
We seek a dynamic and experienced Executive to join as Chief Regions Officer.
The candidate should be an experienced banker with significant regional expertise, a proven track record of successful capital allocation and investments, and strong relationships with relevant private sector companies operating in the region.
As Chief Regions Officer, you will be responsible for achieving the regions' P&L, RAROC, and impact targets.
The Chief Regions Officer will report directly to the CEO of IDB Invest, be a member of the Senior Management Team, and oversee a team of four Regional Managing Directors and 26 country representatives.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop the IDB Invest business plan with the senior management team and ensure its alignment with IDB Group priorities.
- Maintain relationships with governments and participate in business development with private sector clients and entities.
- Provide guidance and oversight to the four Managing Directors, supporting their strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities.
- Oversee and is responsible for business performance from a regional perspective with the Delivery Units (organized teams by industries and regions responsible for originating, structuring, and supervising transactions).
- Define countries' priorities and strategies and establish upstream work.
- Identify, promote, and execute synergies with IDB and IDB Lab.
- Manage resources for the Regions Department, including operational, human, capital, and budgetary resources.
- At least 15 years of relevant experience as a banker with a proven business track record. Significant business experience in the countries where IDB Invest operates. Strong market and private sector company relationships (C-level) in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.
- Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank's official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
- There are no citizenship requirements.
- Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
