Sr. EHS Safety Specialist

Overview:
This position is responsible for all Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Security programming at a single distribution center and responsible for strategically supporting additional facilities as needed with guidance from the EHS Manager.This position is assigned to support Workers’ Compensation and case management, OSHA compliance programming and T. Marzetti safety programs, EPA/environmental programming, facility sustainability initiatives, and physical security. The position will include up to 25% travel to other company facilities or as needed for training or other business needs.

Responsibilities:
- Leads continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Marzetti Operational Excellence (MOE), including championing the Safety Pillar.
- Monitors and coordinates Behavior Based Safety Observation (BBSO) program for assigned facility(s). Conducts analysis of data collected from observations and generates actionable data for distribution center(s).
- Ensures regular and on-going hazard identification and injury prevention programming in the distribution center(s).
- Monitors safety and health compliance activities and completes assigned inspections.
- Assists and coordinates in accident investigations, drives root cause analysis of injury incidents, and oversees abatement of causation at assigned distribution center(s).
- Works with EHS manager to conduct safety inspections in preparation of annual safety audit of distribution center(s) by corporate.
- Assists in workers’ compensation claims management, inclusive of but not limited to, documentation, treatment, follow up(s), record retention, and meetings with T. Marzetti insurer as needed.
- Coordinates OSHA required safety training for employees and maintains accurate recordkeeping of all OSHA required documentation for training programs at assigned distribution center(s).
- Assists with OSHA recordkeeping and required documentation of injury/accident data at assigned distribution center(s).
- Oversees physical security at assigned distribution center(s), which includes but is not limited to inspections, training, camera/badge systems administration and continuous improvement.
- Maintains close working relationship with all facility supply chain functions and responds to deviations from standards immediately.
- Assists in analysis of trends and costs associated with safety at assigned distribution center(s) with EHS Manager.
- Ensures compliance to safety, quality, facility security, food safety and HAACP support programs at assigned distribution center(s). where applicable.
- Supports and drives sustainability initiatives at assigned distribution center(s).
- Ensures compliance with all safety requirements, environmental reporting, and policies at assigned distribution center(s).
- Provides and coordinates training, direction, development, evaluation, coaching and leadership for associates and leadership at assigned distribution center(s).
- Maintains good employee, corporate and community relations.
- Partners with department managers and shift supervisors to ensure a ‘Zero Harm’ mindset.
- Compiles and submit information for all required department, corporate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Maintains company standards for cleanliness, housekeeping, and safety at assigned distribution center(s)..
- Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned by management, including but not limited to environmental compliance tasks.
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills and self- motivated.
- Ability to drive the safety and security culture and engage associates within all levels of the organization.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good understanding of operations.
- Working knowledge of safety, security, U.S OSHA and EPA regulations, workers’ compensation administration in a distribution center environment.
- 1-5 years of experience in the EHS profession.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- 1-5 years of experience with DOT compliance for CDL and non-CDL drivers preferred.
Working Conditions/Environment:
Works in an office and distribution center environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, hear, sit, stand, walk, and occasionally bend while moving about the facility. The employee is occasionally exposed to refrigerated and/or frozen temperatures, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, and risk of electrical shock.The noise level in the office and distribution centers is moderate. Slip-resistant /steel-toe shoes and high visibility vests are required in the distribution center in accordance with T. Marzetti safety standards. Additional PPE is required when visiting T.
Marzetti manufacturing plants in accordance with GMPs and safety standards and is subject to change if updates to T. Marzetti policies are made.
