Roles and Responsibilities:
The Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) Subject Matter Expert is responsible for providing C4I systems support to military units via on-site and remote efforts. This support includes the set-up, configuration, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance for the VSAT-Family of Systems (FOS), and all other Satellite Communications (SATCOM) terminals.These support efforts are provided to military units while deployed, in garrison, in preparation of, and while participating in major exercises and contingency operations.
- Able to provide highly specialized system interoperability and integration support, including over-the shoulder training and troubleshooting for multiple fielded C4I systems and associated tactical networks to Marines deployed and in garrison.
- Familiarity with operation and technical support of SATCOM.
- Working knowledge of multi-meters, spectrum analyzers, power meters and other test equipment.
- Software experience with Windows 10, Linux/Unix OS and common network administration programs including terminal emulator and file transfer software.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical documentation and diagrams.
- Advanced understanding of signal flow of a SATCOM terminal and troubleshooting individual components of the terminal i.e. low noise block (LNB), power amplifiers, antenna control unit (ACU), block up-converter (BUC), etc.
- General knowledge of Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA).
Education:
- Certification listed above accepted in lieu of higher education: And
- Experience equal to degree level
Preferred Skills:
- Familiar with Linkway, EBEM and iDirect modems.
- Familiar with VSAT FOS, VSAT-E/RRK, SMART-T and GBS systems.
- Basic Networking Skills.
- Effective communicator of highly technical information.
- Familiar with TracStar/Cobham ACUs.
- Adaptable to fluid environments.
- TRAVEL REQUIRED FOR POSITION - Must be able to obtain or possess a valid US Passport and by physically qualified to support miliary exercises and contingency operations.
- Experience working with customers, addressing issues, and managing customer concerns and requests over the phone and/or in person.
- Experience supporting Marine Corps C4I systems and equipment.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in military training and education.
- Direct participation in real-world operations is desired.
- Strong active listening, data entry, and documentation skills.
- Willing to work in a 24x7x365 secured environment, demonstrate intuitive problem-solving skills, and allow for flexible scheduling.
