Position: Daycare Manager

Department: Travois Childcare

The Daycare Manager will independently manage the operations of a small, private daycare providing service to employees on-site at Travois in downtown Kansas City. With support from 1-2 part-time Daycare Teachers, the Daycare Manager will be responsible for caring for children aged 12 weeks to 5 years in a small, compassionate, family-oriented educational environment.

Responsibilities:

Positional Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Daycare Operation:
  • Maintain daycare license – coordinate required inspections and ensure all paperwork, certifications and requirements are met to keep our license in good standing.
  • Coordinate schedule of daycare team members to ensure coverage and appropriate child-teacher ratios
  • Monitor supplies and order as needed, keeping to budget provided by CFO
  • Plan meals and order food and other regular use items on weekly or as-needed basis
  • Oversee operations and ensure all care provided, activities planned and food/toys/products used meet the highest standards for a childcare setting.
  • Oversee cleanliness/sanitation and general maintenance of the childcare space – working with our after-hours cleaning crew and/or Office Manager for specific cleaning or maintenance needs.
  • Oversee safety program, ensuring that all team members have proper certifications, safety devices are in good working order at all times, and all team members are operating in the safest manner possible.
  • Manage enrollment, collecting and maintaining necessary paperwork on file for all children that attend. Coordinate attendance with parents to ensure we maintain proper child/teacher ratios.
  • Keep Travois leadership informed of staffing, capacity, attendance and general needs of the daycare operation.
  1. Childcare Duties:
  • Provide safe, compassionate and engaging care for children ages 12 weeks to 5 years.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, problem-solving and physical well-being.
  • Supervise children in the classroom and outdoors.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks, supervise meal and snack time carefully.
  • Maintain a tidy space, cleaning up after meals, snacks and activities and storing all toys and supplies in an organized way.
  • Clean and sanitize regularly to avoid the spread of germs. Observe best practices for handwashing and cleanliness and encourage the same of the children and/or parents that visit the daycare space.
  • Provide a supportive environment where children can learn and practice appropriate behaviors.
  • Interact daily with parents; maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child’s family relationships.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements, Abilities and Expectations

Education requirements:

  • Bachelor or Associate degree in child development or early childhood education. Relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • CPR and First Aid Training

Position-specific requirements:

  • One or more years of early or primary childhood education experience
  • Background verification check
  • Ability to implement and maintain compliance with Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensing rules and regulations.
  • Ability to complete ongoing continuing education requirements through the Missouri Professional Development (MOPD) system (currently 12 hours annually).

General requirements:

  • Must have the ability to problem solve and think independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective ongoing relationships.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Professional integrity and sense of responsibility and accountability.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to move actively in our daycare room, get on the floor to interact with children, etc.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, in person, and by telephone, with children and parents.
  • Ability to use a computer and communicate via the internet with parents and Travois leadership.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, bend, kneel, stand, stoop, squat and walk frequently.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Must be comfortable changing diapers and assisting young children in the bathroom.
