Responsibilities:
The Licensed Patient Access Clinician’s primary function is to provide essential pre-admission screening and assessment services for all patient applicants to Newport Healthcare treatment facilities. This includes virtual meeting with the patient, risk assessment, and acting as liaison between admissions, operations, patient and/or family members.
Essential Duties:
- Provide up to date availability for the scheduling of virtual assessments.
- Facilitate virtual assessments to assess applicant safety profile, and to gather key clinical and background information about patient history.
- Complete screening and assessment documentation thoroughly and professionally and submit all documentation in a timely manner.
- Conduct record reviews of clinical and medical screening questionnaires, clinical or hospital treatment records, academic records, referent-provided information, releases of information and any other collateral provided regarding the application for treatment.
- Document clearance for admission to a particular level of care or program site.
- Record a provisional pre-admission diagnosis for insurance authorization.
- Assign safety risk level and elopement risk level, triaging risk with onsite program and clinical staff to ensure accommodations to manage risk in place prior to admission.
- Provide thorough rationale for denial of any admissions, citing ineligibility criteria and/or significant safety concerns, where applicable.
- Consult with necessary internal and external stakeholders on complex cases, or those which present significant safety risk.
- Consult with medical, psychiatry, or specialized services as necessary, when determining admission location.
- Speak with patients, family members, or referents regarding admission or placement recommendations.
- Engage patients and family early in the referral and admissions process and have the clinical acumen to create an authentic relationship, address emotions, and work through resistance towards engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctoral Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited graduate school required.
- Licensed in Marriage Family Therapy, Counseling, Social Work, or Clinical Psychologist in a state which Newport Healthcare provides treatment services required.
- At least 2 years of clinical experience with adolescent or young adult population (ages 12-28) required.
- At least 2 years of experience with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorder treatment required.
- Experience with biopsychosocial assessments.
- Experience working at IOP, PHP, and RTC level of care settings.
- Expertise with DSM5 diagnostics, including complex symptom presentation and differential diagnosis, use of specifiers and severity indicators.
