Who We’re Looking For

A strong Assistant Nurse Manager who will be responsible for overseeing daily nursing operations, staff supervision, and compliance with clinical protocols within Gaudenzia’s substance use and behavioral health treatment programs. This position provides direct oversight, mentorship, and operational support for the nursing staff, ensuring high-quality, trauma-informed, and client-centered care.

The ANM ensures compliance with all required documentation and follow-up care throughout treatment. They oversee the coordination of healthcare services, ensuring compliance with state and agency regulations while maintaining efficient nursing workflows.

As a liaison between the nursing team and Nurse Manager, the ANM provides hands-on leadership, stepping in to support complex cases, staffing concerns, and quality improvement initiatives. They play an integral role in staff scheduling, training, performance evaluations, utilization review, and policy development while assisting with crisis response and operational problem-solving.

Work is performed with considerable independence, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act, agency policies, and healthcare regulations. The ANM collaborates closely with the Nurse Manager, Program Director, and Director of Nursing to ensure efficient operations and exceptional client care.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities in this role may include:

  • Directly supervise, mentor, and support 8-10 nursing staff, ensuring clinical competence and performance excellence
  • Oversee staff scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow, ensuring adequate coverage, timely client care, and smooth operations
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to nursing staff, fostering professional growth
  • Assist in onboarding, training, and continuing education for nurses to enhance clinical skills and knowledge
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, policies, and regulatory standards for substance use and behavioral health treatment
  • Monitor day-to-day nursing operations, identifying areas for process improvement and efficiency
  • Ensure development, and implementation of individual or group health seminars, including, but not limited to: HIV/AIDS, nutrition, medication education, infectious diseases, mental health, MOUD, MAUD, and substance use disorders, etc.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives, ensuring proper medication management, infection control, and documentation accuracy
  • Conduct rounds and audits to verify adherence to care standards and facility protocols
  • Assist with inventory management, ensuring medical supplies, medications, and equipment are available and properly maintained
  • Serve as the key liaison between nursing staff and the Nurse Manager, ensuring seamless communication and problem resolution
  • Provide hands-on leadership, stepping in to assist with complex cases, crises, or high-acuity clients coordinating referrals as needed
  • Address staff concerns, operational challenges, workflow bottlenecks, and escalating issues to the Nurse Manager as needed
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to care planning, discharge coordination, and clinical decision-making
  • Represent the nursing team in collaboration with external providers, stakeholders, and community resources
  • Work independently within their assigned team, making operational decisions to ensure excellence in care delivery
  • Partner with the nursing team, clinical team, and/or the Nurse Manager to drive strategic goals, quality improvements, and performance benchmarks
  • Assist in staffing contingency planning, ensuring smooth operations during absences, emergencies, or high-demand periods
  • Assist with utilization review and regulatory compliance to ensure appropriate levels of care and cost-effectiveness
  • Contribute to policy development, clinical process improvements, and workflow optimizations
  • Act as a liaison between program and prescribers to ensure that clients have appropriate medical coverage to guarantee adequate care, and provider compliance for payment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing
  • Required to work every other weekend and one-off shift per week to ensure contact with all medical staff as determined necessary by the Nurse Manager and scheduling needs
  • Will be required to work during staffing shortages and holidays as necessary
  • This position is deemed essential and will be required to work during inclement weather
  • Serve as an on-call resource for urgent nursing concerns, including crisis intervention and staffing shortages
  • Assumes Nurse Manager duties during designated times, not to exceed more than 60 consecutive days unless otherwise agreed upon in writing with Human Resources
  • For Gaudenzia sites with multiple programs, you may be required to work in any of the programs based on staffing needs

Other related duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Director of Nursing or designee

Working Conditions:

  • Required to work weekends at least once a month including one off shift per week to ensure to ensure program coverage.
  • May be required to work shifts outside of assigned shifts during critical staffing shortages.
  • The minimum holiday requirement is 1 major summer holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day) and 1 major winter Holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day (night shift: New Year’s Eve). Other Holidays will be rotated amongst all staff.
  • This position is deemed essential and will be required to work during inclement weather

Qualifications for this role:

Education:

  • Degree from an accredited professional nursing program; must possess a current RN license in good standing for the applicable state and current CPR certification.
  • 3 years of SUD/Behavioral Health (BH) nursing experience in a residential setting. CARN certification may substitute for 2 years of SUD/MH experience.
  • BSN with 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Associate’s degree (AA) with 3 years of leadership experience in a nursing role

Experience:

  • Demonstrates strong clinical expertise, leadership experience, and operational knowledge to support high-quality patient care and efficient unit management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of SUD or Mental Health nursing experience, including at least 1 year in an entry-level leadership role (e.g., charge nurse or team lead).
  • Proven ability to mentor staff, manage workflows, and uphold compliance standards.
  • Preferred experience in:
  • Staff scheduling and coverage management
  • Utilization review to ensure appropriate reimbursement
  • Quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration with medical, clinical, and administrative teams
  • Problem-solving and crisis management in a fast-paced residential setting
