Baylor College of Medicine Pathology is recruiting for a general surgical pathologist for a hospital-basedpractice in Longview, TX. The ideal candidate will have broad expertise as a general surgical pathologist; interest/experience in hematopathology is desirable. Interested candidates should have the ability to
work effectively and efficiently with other medical staff, laboratory technical personnel, and
management. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience with competitive PTO, retirement package, and medical benefits offered.
Job DutiesPerform diagnostic interpretation of surgical pathology, hematopathology, and/or cytology
material and electronic release of cases.
Participate in laboratory quality control and quality assurance
Participate in consultation to clients regarding significance of pathology findings, guidance on
utilization of laboratory technologies to help aid in diagnosis and treatment, and provide client
follow-up
Provides medical guidance to laboratory staff to address technical issues in the laboratory.
Works closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure the highest standards of TAT, quality, and customer service are maintained.

Minimum QualificationsM.D. or D.O Degree
Unrestricted Texas medical license or eligible for Texas medical licensure
Board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology
Experience in surgical pathology
Experience in hematopathology desired but not required
Baylor Pathology has the contract at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Medical Center, a 320 bedregional medical center in Longview, Texas. We currently have two pathologists, and a PA. This
position includes a mix of surgical pathology cases, non-gyn cytology, and some
hematopathology, mostly peripheral smear reviews. Currently much of our hematopathology is
sent to Baylor in Houston. Our volume last year was 13,503 surgical and 1075 non-gyn cytology.
There is also the usual clinical pathology work.
CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Medical Center is a part of the CHRISTUS Health Northeast Texasgroup, and consists of two institutions, one in Longview and the other in Marshall. The medical
center has a combined 351 beds, and 20 ORs, a NICU, a level III trauma emergency department, and a recently opened Heart and Vascular Institute. There is an outpatient surgery center in
Longview with an additional 8 ORs and a large endoscopy section. The medical center offers a
broad range of surgical services including general surgery, breast and gynecologic, urology, thoracic surgery, and neurosurgery, and a large outpatient gastroenterology service, all which
provide an extensive mix of pathology cases. There is also an interventional radiology servicethat provides numerous non-gyn-cytology cases.
