Position Overview:

SunVest’s Engineering team is responsible for all solar design and electrical, civil, and structural engineering support for the Development team and the Operations team.

As the Electrical Engineer based in our Chicago HQ, you will report directly to the VP, Head of Engineering. You will be responsible for creating 30% engineering plan sets, providing technical support to the Development IA team, preparing solar & BESS electrical 1-lines and PV calculations that comply with NEC standards and local AHJ requirements, and coordinating accurate and timely IFP and IFC deliverables working with the EORs.

Your expertise in electrical engineering and BESS will be pivotal to SunVest’s ongoing success, contributing to our sustainable growth strategy and the development of strategic plans for managing and improving renewable energy generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Coordination: Design and develop 30% plan-sets that include detailed site plan, 1-line diagram, stringing plan and equipment positioning
  • Solar Design & Equipment Selection: In compliance with utility requirements, design and select major equipment for a project including switchgear, recloser, transformer, GOAB, and SEL settings
  • BESS Design & Equipment Selection: Work closely with BESS integrators to engineer DC-coupled and AC-coupled BESS designs and support the VP of Engineering with BESS equipment selection
  • IFP and IFC Design Coordination: Work with the EOR to develop and deliver IFP sets for AHJ approvals and IFC sets for SunVest's EPC contractors in a timely fashion

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, advanced degree preferred for Senior-level position
  • Professional Engineer license in Illinois preferred
  • Electrical Engineering Experience: Mid-level 3-5 years, Senior-level 5+ years
  • Job level, title, and responsibilities to be determined by relevant experience and education level
  • Strong leadership skills, capable of making strategic decisions and working independently.
  • In-depth understanding of NEC, IBC, and IEC codes.
  • Innovative and adaptable, with excellent collaboration, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in time management, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines. We appreciate candidates who can adapt to changing priorities without compromising the quality of their work.
  • A deep passion for the renewable energy sector and a principled approach to fostering sustainable energy solutions.
  • Comfortable with taking a collaborative approach to making suggestions that can improve existing processes; we value team members who are proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and are eager to work with others to implement positive changes.
