Benjamin Moore has an opening for a Plant Technical Manager to provide manufacturing technical support at the Pell City site. The Technical Manager reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, will work closely with the production, maintenance, engineering, and product development teams to drive consistent product quality, equipment functionality, and development of new products.

Responsibilities:

Provide technical support and advice to personnel related to equipment capabilities and formulation details.

Identify CTQ’s (critical to quality) steps in the paint manufacturing process and along with Quality and Production teams develop systems to better control all CTQ’s to improve consistency of paint production.

Assist product development by applying process knowledge to evaluate new products and equipment requirements. Coordinate scale up process locally for new products/formulas with Product Development Labs/Chemists. Provides input related to processing notes and equipment capabilities to batch recipes and bills of material.

Removes waste and constraints from the production processes to improve efficiency and enhance productivity. Responsible for managing wash, rework, and waste inventories. Identifies and implements inventory reduction efforts. Coordinates the proper segregation and recycling of all production wash and rework with the Quality Manager, capitalizing upon every recycling opportunity and ensuring that only approved wash and rework is added to approved host batches.

Monitors, maintains and recommends improvements of process automation equipment in coordination with corporate engineering. Maintenance of meter dispensing accuracy, including regular meter calibration schedules and evaluation of performance.

Work with Production Leadership to identify and develop solutions for training and knowledge gaps within the production teams.

Assists with identification and implementation of Continuous Improvement projects.

Qualifications:

BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or closely related technical field. Extensive first hand knowledge of both the “how” and “why” of paint manufacturing and cross-departmental experience is a plus.

5+ years experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, supervisory positions a plus.

Knowledge of paint and coatings technology in an industrial setting

Strong technical and computer literacy skills required.

Strong interpersonal, customer service, and leadership skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

The ability to work in a matrixed organization is essential.

Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels.

Some domestic travel is required.

Demonstrated ability to handle employee relation issues and facilitate conflict resolution. Establish strong working partnership with HR.
