Overview:

The Business Intelligence Analyst understands, interprets, and analyzes data very quickly, and is responsible for delivering high quality and timely reports to all business units across the credit union As part of the Financial Planning & Analysis department, the Business Intelligence Analyst will help design, develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive suite of business intelligence tools to inform and support key business decisions related to the Credit Unions financials and operations.

Using database technologies, this position is responsible for identifying and translating business needs and requirements into useful and actionable information. The Business Intelligence Analyst will clearly communicate report findings and provide data that assists business units in making informed decisions.

The position will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of enterprise reporting solutions using modern standardized tools.

Responsibilities:

Business Intelligence / Enterprise Reporting / Analysis
  • The primary responsibility of this role will be to build reports and dashboards for executive management and business users throughout the Credit Union using primarily Power BI and other reporting tools as needed.
  • Query the internal Data Warehouse to extract data for analysis using SQL, integrate other data sources and tools as needed.
  • Translates and documents results of requirements gathering into a standard format used to create the appropriate Business Intelligence (BI) solution.
  • Coordinates user acceptance testing of reporting modules, analyzes test results, and corrects problems.
  • Leads in the collection of system/business requirements and the documentation of business and technical data dictionaries/metadata and specifications.
  • Serves as information resource for users, including determination of most appropriate data source, providing or arranging applications, reports, or educating users to retrieve the information themselves.
  • Performs ongoing monitoring and refinement of reports.
  • Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining and predictive analytics.
Design / Database Development
  • Focuses on data quality and integrity, which results in increased confidence from end users.
  • Identifies and recommends methods to normalize and maintain data from disparate systems.
  • Works with internal and external data users to identify requirements and deliver high quality BI solutions. Analyses and takes ownership for data and report quality.
  • Coordinate data strategy and governance, supporting a new data warehouse with BI tools.
  • Develops and establishes data quality standards and data governance protocols and maintains data governance process and tools by which enterprise business, data, and metric definitions are documented, calculated, and communicated.
  • Provides security, integrity and validity to all credit union data and all BI reports.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Entry Level: Bachelor’s Degree required. 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Credit union or financial institution experience preferred.
Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s Degree required. 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Credit union or financial institution experience preferred.
Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Credit union or financial institution experience highly required.
  • 3+ years of direct experience in dashboard and report writing using Power BI required.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to drive business decisions.
  • Advanced analytical skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strategic, intellectually curious thinker with focus on outcomes.
  • Experience writing SQL, Transactional SQL (Stored Procedures, Triggers and Functions) required.
  • Must be capable of working multiple projects at one time and evaluate/prioritize as necessary.
  • Experience using Databricks is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Dax Programming for Power BI, CSharp.net preferred
  • Experience in a financial institution is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and establish relationships with team members, department managers, executive management, and key stakeholders.
  • Leverages interpersonal skills to communicate with non-technical personnel at various levels within the credit union.
  • Identifies and works with appropriate staff to resolve data and technical issues.
  • Contributes to projects, which include verbal and written participation.
  • Maintains records to document data program development and revisions.
  • Written and verbal communication skills which support effective communication of information to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from business line managers and staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENCY
To perform this job, the employee must possess applicable technology skills.
  • Experience with data reporting and analytics competencies.
  • Experience with detailed data analysis over complex data systems, including many-to-many databases.
  • Excel experience using advanced skills
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
  • To perform this job, the employee must possess strong creative skills, good writing skills and a high degree of personal initiative. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including writing reports and presentations; group facilitation skills; ability to develop professional relationships; as well as networking internally and externally.   • Proven ability to partner effectively across all levels of the organization and develop positive working relationships. Must be able to adapt well to change and be passionate about finding new ways to solve evolving business needs.
  • Must act as a team player with various departments throughout the organization. Ability to remain flexible and supportive as departmental needs arise and be willing to adjust priorities to meet changing demands and needs in the marketplace. Create and maintain a team atmosphere within the branch.
  • Must be able to work during regular business hours and occasional nights or weekends as needed to meet and support business partner and community/business networking or events. This position requires the employee to travel occasionally to Southern and Northern California Branches as well as to corporate office.
