Patient Scheduler, Radiology Department
Job Description:
Join UChicago Medicine, as a Scheduler in our Radiology Patient Access Department.
Under general direction, assists in maintaining continuity in the day-to-day operations by coordinating exam schedules per departmental guidelines. Provides a single point of service for patient registration, insurance verification/pre-certification, and scheduling.Assists in the maintenance of patient databases and maintains statistics and indicators.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists in maintaining continuity in the day-to-day operations through coordination of exam schedules per departmental guidelines
- Provides a single point of service for patient registration, insurance verification/pre-certification, and scheduling
- Answers and directs internal and external phone calls, schedules appointments, obtains authorization from managed care companies to cover outpatient services
- Works with UCMC managed care office to identify and interpret contracts governing patient care.
- Performs all outpatient registration functions, including interviewing patients by telephone or in person to collect demographic, guarantor, insurance and financial data required for billing
- Communicates preparation instructions, assists department managers in prioritizing exam requests, and triages urgent requests to appropriate departmental leadership to expedite service
- Manages appointment schedules to fill any available vacant appointment time
- Reschedules and follow-up with patients who missed scheduled appointments, and confirms patient appointments
- Communicates with outside institutions to ensure the proper transfer of appropriate reports
- Responsible for managing exam results and mailing same to patients
- Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation, and all other applicable federal, state, local, and institutional regulations with regard to confidentiality
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and medical terminology certification
- Two or more years of experience in office environment
- Experience working with computer and various software programs
- Knowledge of scheduling templates, insurance verification, and third party collection procedures
- Knowledge of hospital billing and collection processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous healthcare experience
- Ability to solve problems independently, performs multiple tasks simultaneously, exercise good judgment, and work effectively in a team environment
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills requiring tact, discretion, and maintaining patient confidentiality
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to attend mandatory training classes offered by the Medical Center after hours or on weekends, with advance notice
