Assistant Director - Safety & Security

Description:The Assistant Director of Safety and Security is responsible for the efficient execution and leadership for the evening shift of safety and security officers. The assistant director creates effective and efficient communication with team to ensure the safety and security of the campus community.

The Assistant Director of Safety and Security reports to the Director of Safety and Security and assists with the implementation of safety and security initiatives, officer training and overall campus safety.
Management & Oversight
  • Schedule and monitor regular patrol of campus on foot/bike/cart and check points, ensuring officers are performing their duties as required.
  • Assist Director with evaluation of officer performance.
  • Conduct officer inspections for uniform compliance and inspections of work spaces to ensure work spaces are conducive to positive work experiences.
  • Work with Director to ensure communication exchange with security officers, all campus community members, and other department members to ensure there is a unified message among our campus community.
  • Assist the Director with training officers in the areas of defensive tactics, mace, baton, handcuffing, CPR / AED, and Stop-The-Bleed.
  • Provide overall training to new officers in accordance with shift work.
  • Work with campus partners to ensure all campus maintenance needs are met and events are managed in accordance with the highest level of service possible.
  • Work with stakeholders to assist with maintenance and development of current and future CCTV operations and needs for the campus community.
  • Create a positive environment for our student population with educational awareness programs, student engagement, and personal safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, emergency management, or related field and/or equivalent training and experience.
  • 5-7 years of law enforcement, security, and/or emergency management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in the employment and maintenance of large-scale video surveillance and electronic access control systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in the development of improvement of policies, procedures, reports, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team building, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, emergency management, or related field.
  • 10 years of work experience within a college/university setting with progressive growth in leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of law enforcement and security training programs.
  • Experience with police or security records management systems.
