Our UCI Health neurologists are national leaders in the care of patients suffering from stroke, seizures, brain tumors, degenerative nerve diseases, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, as well as memory disorders, including Alzheimer's disease.

As part of Orange County's only academic medical center, our neurologists also actively pursue leading-edge research to advance care for these diseases and conditions. This means our patients often have access to new therapies and treatments before they are available elsewhere.

Responsibilities:

The laboratory studies the cell biology and differentiation of stem cells in the neural lineage. Under supervision of the Professor, the incumbent will perform routine experimental procedures and lab chores, including: mouse and human stem cell cultures; phenotypic, molecular, and biophysical analyses of cultured cells; animal work including husbandry and tissue dissection; general lab support (making stock solutions, ordering, and maintaining lab databases), and maintain complete written records of these tasks.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to read and follow detailed written instructions
  • Ability to record results and observations and maintain an organized, legible lab notebook
  • Skill to pipet accurately
  • Ability to use Macintosh or PC computers
  • Knowledge and operation of routine lab equipment (power supplies, incubators, hoods, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in science discipline such as biology, neuroscience, engineering, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, psychobiology, cell biology, developmental biology, etc
  • Mammalian cell culture experience
  • Animal experience

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with engineering/bioengineering/biophysics
  • Human stem cell culture
