Responsibilities:

Position Overview

The Communications Coordinator will support the Regional Communications Manager in the Boston/New England area. This role is ideal for an early-career communications professional who is eager to gain experience in communications and media relations, and to contribute to key Youth Villages initiatives in New England.

The Communications Coordinator will assist with the implementation of regional marketing communications, public relations strategies, and campaigns to raise awareness and support for Youth Villages among stakeholders, influencers, youth and families clients, and donors.

This position reports to the Regional Communications Manager and will work closely with the New England Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Regional Communications: Assist in implementing communication strategies, ensuring alignment with state and national goals. Help to develop and execute the New England communication plan, including setting timelines and tracking progress against goals. Support Executive Leadership Team with communications needs.
  • Project Management: Coordinate various communications projects, ensuring timelines are met, tasks are completed efficiently, and all stakeholders are kept informed of progress. Assist in organizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Content Creation: Help manage content planning and creation for internal and external communications, including drafting success stories, social media posts, newsletters, media pitches, thought leadership pieces for Youth Villages blog , and more. Conduct interviews with youth, families, and staff as needed.
  • Media Relations: Assist in maintaining relationships with local, regional, and state media outlets. Support the development of media materials such as press releases and fact sheets, and respond to media inquiries as directed. Work closely with our national Communications team and our PR consultant.
  • Event Support: Assist in promoting and supporting key development programs and events through communication materials and media outreach. Represent Youth Villages at events as needed.
  • Social Media Management: Promote Youth Villages New England through regular social media posts, ensuring content is engaging and aligns with organizational goals.
  • Crisis Communications: Provide support for crisis and issue management efforts, working closely with the national marketing and communications team to develop internal messages, media relations strategies, and responses to media inquiries.
  • Administrative Support: Monitor daily media coverage, prepare reports, and assist with maintaining digital clip files. Provide general support to the Regional Communications Manager and other team members as needed.

Qualifications:

Qualifications
  • Passion for Mission: A genuine interest in helping children and families live successfully.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing. Previous experience with social media, content creation, and media relations is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages. Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving abilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms. Experience with graphic design or video editing software is a plus.
  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
  • Travel: Must have access to a car and be able to travel to various locations regionally as needed.
  • Availability: Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends, especially during key events or campaigns.
  • Physical Demands: Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds of equipment or materials and standing for prolonged periods during events.
  • This is a part-time role.*
