Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support in a healthcare setting. This role involves direct patient care, assisting healthcare providers with examinations and treatments, and managing various administrative tasks.The ideal candidate should be compassionate, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, history, and documenting information in medical records.
- Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and minor surgical procedures.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers.
- Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare specimens for analysis.
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments and exam rooms.
- Provide patient education on medications, diets, and treatment plans as directed.
Administrative Duties:
- Greet patients, check them in, and verify their information and insurance details.
- Schedule appointments and manage patient flow in the office.
- Answer phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages to healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Assist with billing, coding, and processing insurance claims.
- Order and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification is an advantage.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures.
- Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Requires manual dexterity for handling medical instruments and typing.
Work Environment:
- Work primarily in a clinical setting such as a physician's office, clinic, or hospital.
- May involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
