Location: Geneva, NY
Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant works with patients to relieve pain, improve the body's movement and function, and limit disabilities resulting from injury or disease. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
Knowledgeable in the use of therapeutic exercise, mechanical traction, therapeutic massage, heat, cold, water, electricity, etc. Takes measurements and makes adjustments. Provides instruction in the use and care of crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.Instructs, motivates, and provides assistance to patients and others in: Improving cardiopulmonary function, improving functional mobility, Learning, Improving daily living activities, and the use and care of orthoses, prostheses and supportive devices.
Performs, without interpretation, selected measurement procedures such as range of joint motion, gross strength of muscle groups, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs. Modifies the treatment procedures as indicated by patient response and within the limits specified orally or in writing by the Physical Therapist.
Maintains complete, accurate, and timely documentation according to established policy and procedures. This includes daily billable interventions and progress notes.Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, visitors, volunteers, students and other health care personnel in a manner that conveys professionalism. Attends and actively participates in patient care, departmental and institutional meetings in a manner that demonstrates a cooperative and positive attitude.
Fosters collaboration within Rehab to achieve patient goals|objectives. Actively supports and participates in the team approach.
Demonstrates an ability and willingness to individualize the approach to a patient regardless of patient's personality, disability, or psycho-social needs (i.e., patient fears, concerns, or changes in lifestyles).
EDUCATION: Two-year associate degree from an accredited physical therapy assistant program.
LICENSE: Current or eligible to practice as a physical therapy assistant in New York State.
BLS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
WORK EXPERIENCE: New grads acceptedPreferred: One to two years' experience.
SKILLS:
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the people in a professional and courteous manner.Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
Computer literacyMust be able to travel to multiple locations on any given day as requested.
Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record
