We are seeking an experienced Director of eCommerce to lead and optimize our website, taking full ownership of the eCommerce experience. This role is responsible for driving website performance through CRO, design, development, and data-driven experimentation, while building and leading the eCommerce team.

You will not have full P&L ownership, nor will you oversee customer acquisition, retention, or other marketing functions. We have dedicated teams in place for these areas, and they rely on the website to convert traffic effectively and drive sales.

As the Director of eCommerce, your focus will be on website management and optimization, ensuring our site continuously improves its user experience, conversion rates, and operational efficiency across these key focus areas:

Core Responsibilities & Team Building

Take ownership of the eCommerce department from the CEO and lead the following functions:

  • CRO: Build, lead, and scale a high-performing CRO program, managing a testing roadmap, funnel optimization, and continuous iteration based on data insights.
  • Funnel & Landing Pages: Develop highly optimized funnels and landing pages that drive conversions, continually testing and improving messaging, design, and user flows.
  • Data & Analytics: Ensure all data is tracked, analyzed, and acted upon with precision. Build a robust framework for performance tracking, event tagging, and experiment result analysis.
  • eCommerce Operations: Oversee day-to-day website operations, including Shopify management, subscription optimization, and project execution to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Merchandising: Manage product presentation, inventory management, and cross-sell/upsell strategies to drive higher average order values (AOV) and optimize product launches.

Lead & Utilize the Existing Team:

  • UX Design: Guide and work with the design team to continually improve site usability and visual performance through data-driven insights.
  • UI Development: Collaborate with the development team to implement new designs, ensure site performance, and troubleshoot issues in real-time.
  • SEO: Work with SEO to ensure on-page and technical SEO efforts are in sync with overall site optimization strategies.

What We Expect:

  • Ownership & Leadership: Take full ownership of the eCommerce department and work with the CEO to transition leadership while building a lean, high-performing team.
  • Consistent Experimentation: Lead CRO and site optimization experiments with a focus on improving key metrics like conversion rates, AOV, and overall site usability.
  • Trustworthy Data & Analytics: Ensure accuracy in tracking, reporting, and analyzing experiment results, building trust in the data that drives decisions.
  • Constant Improvement: Drive continuous site design and UX improvements, ensuring a frictionless and optimized customer journey.
  • International Growth: Lead efforts to optimize semi-localized experiences to drive international growth.
  • Team Building: Shape and build a lean team of high performers to scale with business needs, focusing on:
  • Optimization of Marketing Performance: Improve performance marketing results through better site optimization and funnel execution.
  • Enhancement of Website Usability: Use experimentation and design to consistently improve site usability and customer experience.
  • Data Accuracy & Reporting: Build processes and tools to ensure accurate data collection and actionable insights.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure timely execution of eCommerce projects, campaigns, and new feature developments through strong project management.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization)
  • Build and manage a structured and prioritized testing plan for improving conversion rates through A/B tests, multivariate tests, and funnel optimization.
  • Analyze user data and heatmaps to identify areas of improvement and implement data-driven changes.
  • Monitor CRO success metrics and continually optimize funnels for better performance.
  • Funnel & Landing Page Optimization
  • Develop, oversee, and improve high-performing landing pages aligned with marketing campaigns.
  • Conduct A/B testing on page layouts, messaging, and conversion flow to increase sales.
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing team to ensure pages are optimized for traffic generation.
  • Data & Analytics
  • Ensure proper event tagging, pixel implementation, and analytics setup (GA4, Facebook, Google Ads).
  • Monitor KPIs like conversion rates, AOV, CLTV, and funnel performance to identify key opportunities for optimization.
  • Analyze and report on the effectiveness of experiments, ensuring data accuracy and trustworthiness.
  • eCommerce Operations
  • Oversee the management of Shopify, including product listings, app integrations (ReCharge, Reviews, Fraud, Chargebacks), and site maintenance.
  • Manage the execution of promotions, product launches, and campaigns in collaboration with marketing and development.
  • Lead the development and launch of new pages and features, ensuring they align with business goals and user experience.
  • UX Design & UI Development
  • Collaborate with the design and development teams to ensure seamless execution of site improvements and new features.
  • Regularly conduct UX research, user testing, and feedback sessions to refine and improve the user experience.
  • Ensure front-end development follows best practices for performance and responsive design, maintaining high-quality standards.
Requirements
  • Proven Leadership in DTC eCommerce: Extensive experience in leading eCommerce functions, particularly within direct-to-consumer brands. Subscription-based business experience is a plus.
