Production group leader
Overview:
Supervises and coordinates employees in assigned manufacturing areas. Executes and manages the production schedule for assigned work centers and ensures production is completed on time and conforming to quality specifications. Coordinates the training of direct reports on production procedures and processes.Presence on the manufacturing floor is required.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures associates are using their PPE per company guidelines
- Promotes a safe workplace in areas of responsibility by addressing team’s practices and behaviors
- Ensures safety guidelines and procedures are being followed
- Participates in periodic safety meetings as required by company procedures
- Ensures produced items meet quality requirements and raises concerns when they are not met
- Assists the quality department with the segregation of any non-conforming product and ensures corrective/preventive actions are implemented to reduce reoccurrence
- Supports the quality department with investigations of non-conforming product as it relates to customer complaints or inspection findings
- Actively participates in the talent acquisition process (interviewing, candidate selection)
- Coordinates and ensures completion of onboarding for new hires
- Coordinates and monitors training for the team and ensures safety, quality and performance standards are reached
- Responsible for cross-training associates as backups and to allow for work-center rotation
- Develops, coaches, and leads employees through direct supervision, floor presence, recognition, and policy administration.
- Understands and adheres to the employee handbook and good manufacturing practices such as 5S and ensures team members adhere as well.
- Understands and demonstrates the 5 core behavioral expectations: Communicative, Motivated, Responsible, Dependable, Inquisitive.
- Works closely with the production scheduler in putting together a weekly/daily production schedule consistent with employee skills and training
- Ensures the completion of production orders per the schedule and monitors schedule adherence
- Actively manages the production goals and monitors execution
- Ensures resources are adequately assigned including personnel, materials, workstations, and tools
- Works closely with the Process Engineering Team to improve processes
- Monitors production efficiency by employee and work center.
- Ensures associates are documenting production in SAP in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensures associates are entering complete production information on their printed production orders.
- Manages urgent production requests in coordination with the production scheduler and other supporting departments (purchasing, quality)
- Facilitates appropriate tools and supplies to employees and ensures workstations are kept clean and organized at all times.
- Monitors equipment functionality and reports any malfunctions to the maintenance department for repair
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and works toward the implementation of projects to achieve them.
- Works closely with process engineers and technicians
- Works closely in developing and establishing production standards and procedures (SOPs, cycle times, setup times, work-balance)
- Leverages continuous improvement tools to improve scheduling, quality, and efficiency.
- Encourages and maintains a continuous improvement environment within the team
- Works with management to communicate problems or ideas for improvement
- Represents the Operations leadership team by supporting plant-wide initiatives

Qualifications:
External candidates:
- Minimum 2 years work experience as a manufacturing/production supervisor – required
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or another related field
Internal candidates:
- Minimum 1 year supervisor experience at Sonny’s or at previous jobs – required
- High School Diploma/GED required, associate degree or higher preferred
- Six Sigma/Lean Certification preferred
