Methodist Hospital is home to the Family Medicine Residency Program an accredited and nationally recognized program which provides resident physicians with specialty training in primary care family medicine.
Together the hospital and residency program implemented a ground-breaking curriculum addressing the identification treatment and assistance of human trafficking victims and created a one-of-a-kind health clinic for victims the Human Trafficking Medical Home.
Responsibilities:
Job Summary / Purpose
Under the direction of the laboratory manager and/or director, the Specimen Management Supervisor provides supervision of the phlebotomy, specimen processing and send-out activities of the laboratory. Directs, plans and organizes the pre-analytical processes and staff of the laboratory.Develops and implements procedures regarding specimen collection, specimen processing/handling and send-out services of the laboratory. Collaborates with other departments to facilitate specimen collection processes to meet expected collection to lab turnaround times.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities- Supervises assigned staff and maintains a staffing pattern in the department to meet the operational needs of the department. Set the standard of quality of work for the department.
- Prepare work schedules and maintain appropriate workforce. Work with HR and Lab Management in the hiring, discipline and dismissal processes.
- Maintain work processes to meet laboratory turnaround times and quality standards.
- Develops and maintains policies, procedures and protocols that are in alignment with hospital guidelines.
- Monitor work performance, identify training opportunities and oversee training of assigned staff. Track training and education, maintain competency & training records of assigned staff.
- Submits performance assessments to manager/director for approval prior to the due date.
- Attend meetings and participate in committees as assigned.
- Work with the Lab Leadership Team to facilitate improvement of laboratory services, operations and organizational processes.
- Oversee billing compliance and manual charge entry for send out testing.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- 5 years phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory with High School Diploma/GED.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 3 years phlebotomy experience preferred with Associate or Bachelor degree in a biological science.
Required Certification and License:
- California Phlebotomy Certificate PHLEB:CA
Preferred Certifications:
- Lab Assistant Program certification
- Phlebotomy certificate
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstration of leadership skills
