Maintenance Specialist

Overview:

The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing a range of maintenance tasks, including unskilled and semi-skilled repairs, adjustments, and minor construction work across various trades. This role ensures that facilities are well-maintained and meet NWFCU standards.

Additionally, the Maintenance Specialist supports skilled staff in completing larger and more complex projects. Typical duties encompass a variety of trades, such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, energy management, and fire and life safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and learn to perform preventative maintenance for building systems, including exterior envelopes, interior ceilings, floors, walls, windows, finishes, hardware, keys, panel alarm hardware, plumbing, electrical (lights, light tube changes, ballasts, outlets, circuitry, electrical panels), and mechanical systems (controls, pumps, motors).
  • Assist with and learn to repair facility structures, systems, and components, including minor repairs to plumbing, low-voltage and line voltage electrical systems, door hardware, fire and life safety equipment, sprinkler systems, and participate in structural and roof inspections
  • Assist with and learn the maintenance of induction, air handling, and refrigeration units, including servicing, cleaning, and inspecting all related equipment
  • Assist with and learn to identify repair and maintenance projects requiring contractor or vendor assistance; gather information to help estimate and evaluate project costs
  • Assist with and learn to perform electronic recordkeeping related to preventative maintenance and repairs to optimize the use of computerized maintenance management and service request systems
  • Maintain a working knowledge of materials, systems, and code requirements related to building maintenance
  • Respond to building emergencies and closures, including adverse weather, to ensure all facilities are protected and operational
  • Perform tasks required to prepare campuses for reopening after closures, including snow and ice removal, systems and equipment checks, and start-up operations
  • Understand and adhere to all NWFCU safety procedures
  • Operate a company vehicle, ensuring its safe operation and reporting any maintenance needs
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)

Qualifications:

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Facilities Maintenance, including trades, labor, or custodial work
  • Education or training in facilities maintenance trades can substitute for work experience
  • Valid driver’s license for operating a motor vehicle, with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions
  • Capability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, and reaching below and above shoulders
  • Experience with common hand tools, basic recordkeeping techniques, workplace safety procedures, and the use of personal computers for accessing automated recordkeeping tools and email; basic customer service practices
  • Basic computer skills to maintain logs and inventories, respond to service requests and emails, access the computerized maintenance management system, and automated control systems
  • Ability to learn to use a variety of tools and power equipment, maintain routine records and reports in computerized and written formats, effectively use email and automated calendaring systems, understand and follow oral and written directions, work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance
  • Ability to work on-site in our Herndon, VA headquarters
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday 9:30AM to 6PM
Preferred
  • Journeymen License in one of the following:
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • HVAC
