Machine Learning Engineer

Intelligent Waves has an immediate need for a Machine Learning Engineer to support our mission critical work for our government customers.
Location & Travel: This Machine Learning Engineer position will be based at Nellis AFB, NV and may require some travel to other sites (20%). Travel will be reimbursed based on GSA Per Diem rates and DoD Joint Travel Regulations (JTR).
Security Clearance: This Machine Learning Engineer position must be a United States Citizen and hold a current Secret security clearance.
Employees are required to follow all company and customer site COVID-19 protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement machine learning models and algorithms tailored to specific business and technical challenges.
- Continuously evaluate, tune, and iterate models to meet targeted performance metrics such as precision, F1 score, and Type-II error rates.
- Assist in the design of scalable architecture for model deployment, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
- Optimize the performance and scalability of deployed machine learning models to operate efficiently in production environments.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists, and developers to design, create, and implement innovative solutions that address real-world challenges.
- Implement automated processes for data preparation, model training, testing, and deployment.
- Monitor and maintain machine learning systems, ensuring consistent and reliable performance by addressing any arising issues.
- Stay informed on advancements in machine learning technologies and methodologies, incorporating best practices into projects to maintain state-of-the-art solutions.
- Apply scientific methods, algorithms, and systems to extract valuable insights from structured and unstructured data sources, enhancing data mining efforts.
- Transform data into formats suitable for analysis and share key inputs with architects and stakeholders.
- Develop experimental frameworks to collect data, and recommend optimized solutions based on empirical findings.
- Design and develop tools and templates for automating data collection through emerging technologies.
- Search large datasets for actionable insights that directly support customer needs and strategic objectives.
- Provide ongoing support for project progress, ensuring deliverables are met and stakeholders remain informed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Clearance is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Engineer, Data Scientist, or similar role.
- Proven experience with the full machine learning lifecycle, including model building, iteration, evaluation, retraining, and maintenance.
- Strong programming skills, with Python preferred.
- Advanced SQL skills and strong database management experience.
- Experience with Linux servers and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.).
- Proficiency in software engineering tools and best practices (e.g., version control, extensible code, containerization).
- Familiarity with CI/CD best practices and tools, including automated testing and deployment.
- Experience with microservices architecture and development.
- Strong technical writing skills, capable of documenting processes and results effectively.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools.
- Knowledge of common Air Force base-level communication and IT systems is preferred.
