Hip Hop Caucus is a national, non-profit and non-partisan organization that connects the Hip Hop community to the civic process, builds power and creates positive change.   • We source solutions for local to global challenges from our communities, and advocate for them to decision-makers and influencers. We partner with a broad range of organizations, and we have a respected presence in the halls of the U.S. Congress, Federal Agencies, State Legislatures, and the United Nations.
Hip Hop Caucus is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Manager ready to make a meaningful impact by leading our day-to-day financial operations. In close collaboration with our Senior Director of Finance, you’ll be instrumental in driving excellence across all financial functions to support our organization’s mission and goals.
As Finance Manager, will oversee key accounting activities, including accounts payable and general ledger management, ensuring timely and accurate monthly reporting. Your role will involve recording all revenue, monitoring outstanding receivables, and keeping our financial systems synchronized and seamlessly integrated across divisions and departments.

By leveraging your financial expertise and keen eye for detail, you’ll contribute to building a stable, efficient, and well-organized finance function that strengthens our organization’s success.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Financial and Accounting Management
  • Lead the day-to-day financial operations over accounting and accounts payable.
  • Manage general ledger activities to ensure that regular reporting can be done on a timely basis.
  • Record all revenue received, monitor outstanding receivables, keeping track of all outstanding balances.
  • Support the Senior Director of Finance with the annual budget development
  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Finance, perform timely and accurate monthly closes.
  • Ensure all financial systems remain in sync and integrated with one another.
  • Build a strong cross-departmental collaborative culture, focused on custom-service orientation.
  • Accounts Payable
  • Oversee accounts payable via Bill.com, ensuring invoices are appropriately routed, coded, and paid according to signed contracts.
  • Process credit card transactions and assist in other accounting functions as needed via Ramp
  • Manage vendor relationships, responding to vendor and/or employee inquiries promptly.
  • General Ledger
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations of HHC’s bank accounts.
  • Train staff on finance systems as needed, as well as onboarding new staff to the Finance department’s platforms
  • Support Finance tasks and projects as needed
  • Enter all donations into the accounting system, monitor pledges and update cash-flow projections accordingly
  • Assist in monthly close by performing reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
  • Assist in grant reporting as needed
  • Audit & 990/Tax
  • Support audit preparations and follow-up on auditor queries in providing required documents
  • Assist in 990 preparation
  • Assist in 1099 preparation
  • Maintain filing system and historical records via G-Suite
Education/Experience
  • A bachelor's degree: In a relevant field (finance, accounting, economics, or business).
  • Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in a financial or business role, such as an accountant, financial analyst, etc.
  • Certifications: Professional certification(s) preferred but not required.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Non-Profit Accounting Standards: Experience with fund accounting and GAAP for non-profits.
  • Budgeting & Grant Management: Knowledge of multi-source budgets and managing restricted/unrestricted funds.
  • Donor & Fund Accounting: Expertise in tracking funding streams and ensuring grant compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Taxation: Knowledge of IRS non-profit regulations.
  • Financial Reporting: Experience with IRS Form 990 and donor reporting.
  • Risk Management: Familiar with enforcing internal controls and audit compliance.
  • Resource Allocation & Management: Skilled in in budget and resource allocation; tracking resources and implementing cost control strategies.
  • Analytical: Skilled in data interpretation and financial problem-solving.
  • Ethical Financial Judgment & Decision Making: Commitment to ethical financial practices.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to occasionally work extended hours on evenings and/or weekends, and must be able to accommodate moderate travel. Successful reference checks will be required.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a remote position that is based ideally in or near Washington, D.C. or Los Angeles, CA. The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $94,000 annually based on experience and qualifications. Hip Hop Caucus also offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, vacation days, sick time, an IRA match plan, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
