Housing Assistant - San Rafael

We are in search of a Housing Assistant to join our team within the non-profit industry, located in San Rafael, California. The individual will be responsible for assisting potential and current program participants with the various processes involved in our housing programs.

This role requires extensive interaction with clients, conducting interviews, evaluating eligibility, and ensuring accurate records are maintained.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with potential and current program participants to determine eligibility for housing assistance.
  • Guide participants on all policies and procedures of the Section 8 Housing Authority program, including rental assistance eligibility requirements and restrictions.
  • Review applications and perform income, local police, and reference checks.
  • Conduct home visits as required, ensuring the appropriate living conditions for the participants.
  • Conduct special and interim eligibility reviews in response to changes in household composition, income, or moves, including portabilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of all applications and declarations, ensuring completeness and consistency.
  • Calculate rental liability and appropriate levels of tenant payments based on established rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Schedule interviews for new applicants and existing tenants for further eligibility determinations.
  • Provide general information and assistance to the public regarding housing eligibility requirements.
  • Perform other related administrative support functions as required, including handling incoming calls and inquiries regarding housing programs, eligibility, and assistance. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Housing Assistant role or similar position within the non-profit sector
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems and ADP - Financial Services
  • Experience with CRM and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne systems
  • Familiarity with Management Systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in Accounting Functions including Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Experience with Billing Functions and Budget Processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
