We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Project Accountant in the financial industry, based in New York. As a Project Accountant, you will be primarily responsible for budget preparation and management, cost monitoring and reporting, change order management, risk analysis, and collaboration with project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in creating and maintaining the financial blueprint for projects, drawing on historical data and specific project requirements to forecast expenses.
  • Continuously compare actual project spending with budgeted amounts, anticipating future expenditures. Generate comprehensive financial reports and summaries for presentation to project leaders and senior executives.
  • Assess the financial implications of project modifications, including additional work or changes in scope, and adjust the budget accordingly.
  • Identify potential financial risks associated with project delays, cost overruns, or other complications. Formulate and implement strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Work in close coordination with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to meet financial goals. Offer financial insights and advice during the planning and execution stages of projects.
  • Investigate discrepancies between projected and actual costs, and recommend corrective measures where necessary.

Essential Competencies:

  • Strong ability to evaluate financial data, interpret cost reports, and predict future expenses. Attention to detail is crucial for identifying discrepancies and uncovering potential cost savings.
  • In-depth understanding of financial principles, budgeting processes, and accounting practices, vital for cost control and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore) and financial software (e.g., Sage) for efficient cost tracking and reporting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for engaging with project stakeholders, negotiating with vendors, and presenting financial data to management.
  • Ability to swiftly identify and resolve issues, particularly in managing budget excesses or unforeseen project challenges.

Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • A degree in accounting or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience in construction cost management, cost estimation, or a similar area.
  • Experience in leading teams or collaborating effectively within a project management framework is advantageous.
