Overview:

Under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, the Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant is responsible for the provision of speech and language services ancillary to Applied Behavior Analysis at Verbal Beginnings. Verbal Beginnings’ vision of providing clients with a comprehensive service will be fulfilled in part by this position.

Targeted ancillary services will be made available to clients of Verbal Beginnings in the areas of Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health services. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the supervising SLP, BCBA, the behavior therapist, and other ancillary providers to ensure a positive working relationship.

Responsibilities:

  1. Applies knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the client served (infant, pediatric, adolescent, and young adult).
  2. Demonstrates competence, awareness, and sensitivity of the physical, emotional and socio-psychological needs of infants through young adulthood.
  3. Assists speech-language pathologists in the conducting of client screenings or assessments of language, voice, fluency, articulation, or hearing.
  4. Implements treatment plans or protocols as directed by speech-language pathologists.
  5. Assists speech-language pathologists in the remediation or development of speech and language skills.
  6. Collects and compiles data to document clients' performance or assess program quality.
  7. Documents clients' progress toward meeting established treatment objectives.
  8. Conducts in-service training sessions, or family and community education programs.
  9. Performs support duties such as preparing materials, keeping records, maintaining supplies, and scheduling activities.
  10. Prepares charts, graphs, or other visual displays to communicate clients' performance information.
  11. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to utilize departmental equipment safely and appropriately for client care activities.
  12. Maintains certification and licensure.
  13. Promotes, develops, and participates in training activities at the local, state, national and international levels, including the development and dissemination of curricula, workshops, poster and paper presentations, scholarly publications, book chapters, monographs, and textbooks.
  14. Promotes and participates in both discipline and interdisciplinary research.
  15. Maintains an average of 30 weekly service delivery hours in the domain of speech-language therapy.

Current license as Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant in state of practice
