Job Description
  • Project Cost Estimation: Accurately calculate costs for electrical components, labor, materials, and equipment based on project plans and specifications.
  • Bid Preparation: Compile and submit competitive bids to secure projects, ensuring all electrical aspects are accounted for.
  • Blueprint and Spec Review: Analyze electrical blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Gather and compare quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to get the best pricing for materials and services.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges related to the electrical systems in a project, factoring them into estimates.
  • Value Engineering: Offer alternative solutions or approaches to reduce costs without compromising quality or safety.
  • Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other estimators to ensure all electrical estimates align with overall project goals.
  • Market Research: Stay up-to-date on material prices, labor rates, and industry trends to provide accurate and timely estimates.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and project progress, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Post-Bid Negotiation: Support negotiations with clients or subcontractors to finalize contracts and ensure estimates meet budget constraints.

The Successful Applicant
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Some positions may accept an associate degree or equivalent experience in the electrical trade.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an electrical estimator, or in a related electrical field (such as electrician or project management).
  • Familiarity with commercial and multifamily construction projects in the region is often preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in estimating software like Accubid, Trimble, or McCormick.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, blueprints, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for budgeting and analysis.
  • Knowledge of the Local Market:
  • Familiarity with Cincinnati's construction industry, local vendors, subcontractors, and labor market rates is a plus.
  • Analytical and Math Skills:
  • Strong math skills for accurate calculations of material and labor costs.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and perform cost-benefit analysis.
  • Communication and Negotiation Skills:
  • Effective verbal and written communication to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Strong negotiation skills for securing competitive bids from subcontractors and vendors.
  • Attention to Detail:
  • High level of precision and accuracy in estimating and documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):
  • LEED Accreditation, Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), or certification in electrical estimating from professional organizations.
  • Problem-solving Ability:
  • Ability to troubleshoot design issues, identify potential cost savings, and suggest alternative solutions.
