Production manager
Overview:
The Production Manager will provide leadership and direction to a team of Production Group Leaders across 2-Shifts to ensure Sonny’s Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Key KPI’s are achieved across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity, and Cost.The Production Manager will plan and oversee production output, utilize resources to achieve production targets, hold accountability, drive improvements, and create a work environment of teamwork and cross functional learning As a Key member of the Plant Leadership Team, the Production Manager will collaborate with peers to promote a culture of continuous improvement down to our frontline team-members routed in Safety & Stability, while working to support Sonny’s development into a world-class manufacturing organization.
Responsibilities:
- Promote a Work Environment where Safety and Stability are prioritized above all metrics.
- Oversee a team of Group Leaders across Welding, Machine Shop, Paint, and Assembly-> responsible for delivering shift-level schedule adherence, delivery, and productivity.
- Ensure proper spans of control are in place from Group Leaders and Team Leaders to enable a culture of continuous improvement across all team-members.
- Foster and environment where Leaders are Teachers continuously looking for ways to implement and improve standardized work; continuing to develop capabilities of Group Leaders and Team Leaders to drive problem solving and kaizen to the shop-floor team-members.
- Develop a culture of “Stop, Call, Wait” through the production team and drive a sense of urgency. Enforce and support escalation protocols to quickly respond to abnormalities, implement countermeasures while working to address Root-Cause of Activities, and create a culture that is recognized for escalating issues.
- Working with Group Leads to evaluate, coach, and develop their skills and capabilities. Ensure Group Leaders have the skills and capabilities required to achieve World Class Manufacturing operations across the business.
- Develop Skills Matrix to create flexible workforce and training plans for all team members. Partner with peers to ensure proper training procedures are in place for new hires to ensure successful on-boarding to Sonny’s.
- Ensure shift-by-shift production targets are achieved; work closely with Production Schedulers to define daily plans, and Group Leads to ensure staffing is in place to meet daily goals while minimizing overtime.
- Develop tools and systems to track and share daily / weekly capacity availability (hours) by work center; collaborate with Scheduling Team to ensure targets are set to meet delivery and productivity metrics.
- Maintain and evaluate performance against KPI’s in areas of responsibility; ensure action plan and accountabilities are in place to meet stated goals.
- Ensure that standardized work is up to date and in place, with accurate cycle times/routers maintained in SAP to ensure capacity, scheduling, and cost targets are achieved across the facility.
- Ensure Group Leaders are auditing standardized work, ensure team-members adherence to the standard to avoid workarounds, and promote escalation of any issues.
- Promote Visual Factory enabling easy abnormality detection; ensure 5S across the facility as a means of supporting visual management and promotion of safe workplace.
- Lead Daily Gemba Walk across the business; ensure area boards are maintained and up to date, with key issues identified, owners and due dates assigned and followed up on.
- Drive a sense-of-urgency across the business focused on solving problems for our frontline team-members.
- Work closely with peers and Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment is maintained and performing to standard.
- Ensure Quality to Customer is never compromised; collaborate with the Quality Manager for root cause and counter measure activity and own Quality at the plant level.
- Work with peers and Production Control to adhere to production schedules, closing out of production orders in a timely manner, and assist in inventory issues.
- Working closely with peers and production control to evaluate the capacity and ability to meet the expected sales forecast.
- Working closely with Group Leads to ensure staffing plans are in place to support forecasted sales growth. Own development & management of annual staffing budgets while working with management.
- Evaluate Capacity in 3-month, 6-month and 12+ month buckets. Partner with Management to ensure plans are in place to address any capacity constrained areas before impacting customer spanning both Process Improvements & Capital Investments.
- As necessary, participate in Monthly SIOP meetings to present plant initiatives.
- Partners with cross functional teams across the organization to drive the implementation of Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing. May report out on, monitor, and be active in the presenting of CI activities.
- Actively create a culture in which Continuous Improvement becomes organizational values to create a competitive advantage.
- Promote Learn-by-Doing Approach; ensure Group Leaders are continuously looking for ways to improve the standard and implementing improvements as part of their day-to-day work.
- Assesses cost effectiveness and feasibility of manufacturing processes; makes and implements recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency working together plant leadership team.
- Consults with production leadership and shop associates concerning process improvements.
- Provide active support in rational problem solving and performance improvement projects at all levels of the organization.
- Identify, train and coach in lean concepts. Ensure Production Team Members all are looking for ways of making small, incremental improvements to operations.
Qualifications:
- Degree desired but not required.
- 7+ years Manufacturing Leadership Experience.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare budgets and records.
- Toyota Production System (TPS) / Lean Experience, Six-Sigma Certified a strong plus
- Knowledge of SAP & ERP Systems a strong plus.
