The Lead Hematology Tech performs a variety of diagnostic testing in Hematology. The Lead Hematology Technologist functions primarily as a medical technologist or medical lab technician following established practices and procedures. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the accession room.
Essential Functions:
- Receives assignments according to the established departmental procedures and plans. Organizes and prioritizes work duties to accomplish daily objectives.
- Performs testing procedures and related work according to established protocols and standards with minimal technical and/or data entry error in order to report results to the requesting party.
- Operates equipment and works with highly technical instrumentation according to established procedures and protocols in order to ensure the accuracy of test results.
- Performs equipment maintenance and repair according to operator's manuals in order to facilitate testing procedures and avoid downtime.
- Assays appropriate controls, standards and other quality control material according to protocol in order to maintain the testing environment.
- Performs venipunctures according to established protocols and procedures so as to provide the best possible specimen for analysis.
- Sets up program for instruction of clinical students in hematology.
- Helps train new employees.
- Sets up competencies for hematology staff.
- Covers on-call time or other shifts in times of emergencies/shortages in order to maintain laboratory minimum staffing levels.
- Performs other duties for the Hematology Supervisor to maintain CLIA and Joint Commission accreditation.
- Overseeing the accession room.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30 am or 7:00 am start time, 8 hour shifts including every other weekend rotation.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Associate's Degree in Medical Technology And Over 3 year to 5 years Hematology required,
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology And Over 1 to 3 years Hematology preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:Credentialed by an agency approved by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), i.e. ASCP, NCA, HEW, AMT., Upon hire, preferred
