CHIEF HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER
Elgin Community College (ECC) seeks an experienced human resources leader who will have the expertise and knowledge of best practices to advance the mission of the College. The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is a member of the president’s cabinet and has responsibilities that encompass the administrative functions for all aspects of the human resources department at ECC.
ECC is a comprehensive community college serving communities northwest of Chicago, Illinois, across five counties, including most of Kane County and parts of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, and McHenry. Its service area, District 509, is 360 square miles comprised of distinctive and diverse rural, suburban, and urban communities from Burlington to Streamwood, and from St.Charles to Algonquin. Founded in 1949, ECC recently celebrated 75 years of service. The college is an Achieving the Dream Leader College of Distinction, and a Top 150 Aspen Institute school. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes ECC as a Hispanic-Serving Institution.
ECC seeks an experienced and visionary leader to serve in the capacity of the CHRO, who will have the opportunity to provide sound leadership and innovation to the HR unit. More specifically, there is a need to improve the department’s processes, procedures, and systems via enhanced technology use and greater utilization of the office’s human capital.The CHRO must have a Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with at least ten years of administrative experience in positions with increasing responsibility in the Human Resources field.
Some of the expected qualifications for the next CHRO include:
- Experience with administering collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and handling Labor/Management issues. Experience in union collective bargaining negotiations, either through serving as the chief negotiator or by serving on the negotiations team, is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of all aspects of services provided by a progressive HR department. The CHRO must have experience and knowledge of budget administration and HRIS systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and teambuilding acumen, with the ability to think analytically and strategically.
- Further, he or she must be recognized for his or her integrity of the highest ethical standards, objectivity, comprehensive organizational view, tact, and ability to think clearly in stressful situations.
