Staff Accountant - Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Verify, receipt, and process daily cash and checks from operational divisions to the Finance Division.
• Prepare daily bank deposits and monitor account activity.
• Allocate deposit amounts to appropriate fund codes, including fines, fees, and trust accounts.
• Reconcile daily activity logs and supporting documents for cash and bond payments.
• Manage Merchant Services and NSF processes, including supply orders, transaction research, and chargebacks.
• Reconcile trust account balances monthly and comply with statutory guidelines.
• Void, record, and post stale-dated checks; prepare quarterly reconciliations for county and state agencies.
• Reconcile vendor charges, balance financial accounts, and prepare audit reports.
• Prepare and submit financial reports to the Assistant Chief Financial Officer for approval.
• Update database records, process payments, and file all supporting documents in compliance with audit guidelines.
• Resolve accounting issues independently and post journal entries based on records.
• Maintain accurate financial ledgers and comply with state statutes and fiscal year procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
• Fund Accounting understanding is a plus
• Experience with Bank Reconciliations
• Comprehensive understanding of General Ledger operations
• Ability to prepare and analyze Journal Entries
