Senior Payroll Specialist (contract)

REMOTE Payroll Specialist contract position. We are looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to join our team in Dallas, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of payroll duties, including processing time sheet data, ensuring correct deductions, and handling special payroll processes.
This role is within the transport industry and offers a short term contract employment opportunity. 100% REMOTE.
Responsibilities:
- Handle and process customer payroll data accurately and efficiently.
- Review and input direct deposit information, ensure appropriate deductions are made.
- Work on special payroll processes like union calculations, financial reporting, third-party reporting, and new employee onboarding.
- Collaborate with HR and other business partners to ensure timely and accurate entry of payroll-related data.
- Respond to pay-related inquiries from employees and management, and resolve any errors or omissions.
- Conduct basic reconciliation and auditing processes during each pay cycle, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Review all systems, structures, and processes to identify potential improvements to enhance operational and financial performance.
- Prepare and submit reports and forms as required by IRS, unions, workers comp, or other regulatory bodies.
- Inspect automated system output for employee tax reporting, correcting any out-of-balance conditions.
- Handle garnishment inquiries and audit W2s and annual tax reports.
- Stay updated on city, state, provincial, local, and federal legislation affecting payroll and ensure compliance with applicable provisions.
- Assist with the onboarding and training of less experienced Payroll Specialists and help direct their daily work.
- Participate in and execute special projects, ensuring payroll issues are escalated if needed and resolved promptly.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a payroll specialist role, preferably within the Transport industry
- Proficiency in Full Cycle Payroll, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of all its stages
- Strong experience in Payroll Tax Deposits and Payroll Tax Reporting
- Proven ability to manage HR Payroll Systems effectively
- Experience with W2 forms, including preparation and distribution
- Solid background in Human Resources (HR) Administration
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Multi-state Payroll
- Proficiency in using ADP for Payroll processing
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
